Timmy's sources strike me as very good indeed. And there's a reason why the full slot times haven't been released. To the best of my knowledge, this announcement was only made today because a story about Emily Maitlis was expected in the press imminently. The full reshaping of News24 will be announced in due course, and there is a big development to come.
Whether it's a good thing is, of course, a matter for debate.

Could the development be to do with the possible relaunch of the Six to a Nationwide-style programme, perhaps?
Yeah - it seems W12 and I seem to hang about at the same watercooler!
The full time slots haven't been agreed and I doubt that they will stay the same, ie 9 - 13.00, 13.00 - 16.00 etc.
I'd also heard that the channel's hand was forced on news of the change because a trade paper was going to run a story and they didn't want presenters reading about their fate in a magazine.
So there is indeed a big development to come - I reckon it'll be a good thing.
As it's such a poorly kept secret in TV Centre that is's bound to leak soon, I'll give you another clue. If my anorak memory is accurate, the new Evening male presenter on News24 was the third person ever to be seen live on the channel. The new signing that hasn't been named yet was (I think) either the fourth or fifth person to be seen live on the channel.
My guess as to why it hasn't been announced yet is that the person in question hasn't signed on the dotted line yet. Pure speculation though.

Not Sarah Montague surely!
Just kidding.
If you apply your mind it's not as cryptic as your average Wicked Whisper!
If you think about who's presented on the channel, who's now in charge and how much importance is being placed on the channel it's pretty obvious.
And how would you take on Sky News during one of it's most popular time slots? Fight fire with fire, surely...

Rival Live at Five, with Huw Edwards anchoring.... have i got it?
well sarah montague and gavin esler where the first 2... i reckon you must mean huw edwards, wasnt he the first news24 chief political correspondent?
I'd imagine he could continue doing the 10, he only does 4 days a week anyway.
Gawd this takes me back. Who was there in the beginning - during the "car crash in a shower" set.
Sarah Montague and Gavin Esler, Jane Hill and Matthew Amroliwala and Sian Williams. And Krishnan Guru Murthy too!
Here's an urban legend... apparently Krishnan wasn't too keen on the channel and when he finally was signed to Channel 4 News, he had his contract biked over to Television Centre and signed on the dotted line while presenting!
It was around the time when they used to have that dreadful phone-in where er, no-one would phone in. And the story that always gets told about some footage of pigs playing the mud and a caption popping up which said:
JENNIE BOND
Royal Correspondent.

Those were the days...
The first set wasn't the car crash in a shower - that was the second one when the channel moved to where it is now. The first one was more newsroom plus soft set in the current home to BBC World. And strictly speaking the third person seen live was the sports presenter Barry Milns and I can say he's not involved in the changes.

Ben Brown did a live segment in the opening minutes of News 24, but we already know about him. It could be really anyone, even if they just appeared in the background in the Newsroom.
