It seems that Elinor Goodman is to leave Channel 4 News after 22 years, being its political editor. She will prepare her final report for ITN in July. The big question now is: who will replace her?

Now, that's a suprise. Perhaps not as big as Jon Snow on Ch.4 News, but this is still quite shocking [well, to a certain degree, it is].

I bet Sue Turton replaces her.

The sports correspondent? Don't talk out of your arse, maximus.

Come on, Londoner. Why this connection with maximus - look, I don't know who s/he is/was. I see in almost every news thread you start having arguments.
I don't have a bloody clue who maximus is. I am pissed off with being referred to as someone else I am not.
You moan that everything is wrong with ITV London News and ITV News, yet you still watch it.

Anyway, I do know who Sue Turton is. She is a sports reporter, yes. I do know that. But I was merely guessing [incorrectly] who Elinor Goodman's replacement is going to be.
OK, Shirley - oh, I mean Londoner.

Gary Gibbon if they were recruiting from their current team, but maybe someone from the outside.

Andrew Marr ?

Goodman said this would be her last election a while ago, so no great shock.

I hope Alex Thomas doesn't get it... he's a dreadful reporter. His reports flow about as easily as a dammed river.

Alex Thomson? Alex Thomas does sport on ITV! A theme seems to be emerging here. Anyone else want to suggest another sports reporter who could be in the running for the C4 political job? Laughing

Oh god, sorry.

Either way, I'm sure they'd both be just as bad.

Interesting you mention him.... There have been a few rumours doing the rounds that some reporters would be coming from other places to fill the Marr/Mardel hole.
It's widly expected that Martha Carney of Newsnight will take some form (Cheif Correspondent, possibly editor) in the change.
And lets not forget Newsnight's Home Editor, Mark Easton left channel 4 for BBC News.
Anyway these are only rumours and Im sure you don't need reminding what the grapevine has got wrong....

Of course Huw Edwards name has also been mentioned to replace Marr, and he has said in the past that he would like to return to reporting - and the political editor wouldn't be just any other reporter, he would be top dog. I think a top team of Edwards/Kearny would be rather good.

Well it's official Marr has got the Breakfast with Frost gig according to Media Guardian. I strongly suggest Nick Robinson will be asked to takeover as he has a similar style to Marr, plus his presentation style is more accessible than any of the other BBC political journalists.

Nick Robinson is OK, but I actually would like to see Huw Edwards take the role - from what i remember of his time as a political correspondent he was quite good. IIRC was it not Huw who was the political reporter when the news broke of John Smiths death?
