So opinions on overall coverage now that the sun is rising and all the votes are in.

I think Sky surprised us all. Impressive graphics, great studio set up, the sweeping camera shots across Sky Centre were gorgeous. A big thumbs up.

ITV not too bad. Same studio as ever. Wa the coverage I stuck to the most. I like the atrium area but it seemed poorly set up and not utilised completely to its potential. It's also a shame they have to hand over to GMB at 6am - once I heard Piers shouting I had to turn off.

BBC was quite a big disappointment. A very underwhelming studio for them which was too restricted by its small size. The CGI overhead graphics were awful. Reeta was not a good appointment to the touch screen element. And why on earth would they continue with the hexagon map in the NBH foyer in the freezing cold and pouring rain. The BBC didn't really manage to cope with both the last minute calling of the election as well as the December date and it showed .

What a ridiculous waste of the talents of Sophie Raworth to use her outside in the wet and dark in front of that UK hexagon map. She really drew the short straw. She could have been deployed far more effectively. It was literally pointless in communicating anything much.

But what strikes me strongest with BBC is the ignoring or missing of so many overnight live declarations that they could have shown. It felt like a deliberate decision to downplay that aspect a touch, yet it's the main thrust of the whole election coverage surely.

I agree, when you think of all the high profile MP's that lost their seats this hardly seemed to be covered, I know it was late but was it me or was there a whole hour without a live declaration? This would have added an extra dynamic to the coverage which looking back felt abit flat

It seems as through no matter how much we say the BBC's coverage was rubbish, the ratings seems to say otherwise.

People just watch BBC1, and only the hard core enthusiasts will flick about and look at different coverage, which is why they can get away with providing much cheaper coverage

Didn’t see too much of the BBC coverage this time but seem to remember recent elections being quite similar - very few live declarations and far too many talking heads.

Surprised Channel 4 managed 240k. I watched a bit and it wasn't funny and it wasn't particularly informative either so switched back between mainly BBC and ITV.

Maitlis is awesome! Utterly brilliant broadcaster.

Maitlis: “Nigel Farage, you’re a strange creature”.

BBC World News at 10am UK time has a fantastic line up. Led by Emily Maitlis, we also have Clive Myrie at Number Ten, Christian Fraser at NBH, Annita McVeigh in Belfast, Joanna Gosling at Buckingham Palace and, still on her feet since 9pm last night, Sophie Raworth in the Piazza!

The Sky News Coverage was excellent, but I’m now preferring the BBC World daytime coverage as described above.

Pretty sure the Beeb coverage had a much bigger budget than ITV.

Much cheaper coverage than they normally provide is what I meant

Why do the massive expensive studios when people will watch regardless?

Sky had on average about 90-100k people watching on Youtube.

Sky - thought were excellent throughout. Analysis, pace, lives, guests, Dermot, Beth .. faultless. Only addition would've been a talking head from each party at the desk throughout. It lacked a bit some purely political talking heads to give a reaction. Bercow couldn't really do that.

ITV - best guests of the night and while the coverage initially was good in the studio, after a while it didn't seem to leave the studio much and wasn't capturing the mood of what was going on out there.

BBC - a real miss. From the mess of the studio to the lack of guests and it seems as though they hardly bothered with lives. It had a feeling of a small state broadcaster (a la PBS) that was doing it out of duty, rather than putting much effort in.

Sky was brilliant. ITV was good would have been better if they'd left the studio more as cat says.

I didn't mind the look of the BBC's set as much as others but the coverage itself was shameful.
