The Democrats now have outright control over the senate for the first time since the Clinton era (the last two years they have had control thanks to Lieberman I-Conn. and Sanders I-Vt.). They need 8 more seats to gain over 60% of the seats, which would give them the power to expel members (if Senator Stevens is re-elected in Alaska, the Democrats could expel him from the senate if he is convicted of current corruption charges - the irony is the democrats probably have to beat him anyway to take 61 seats).

I would say Maine is more streightforward, and less divisive. I think it's almost certain that this could happen with Nebraska also.
