I think it must be ABC that can't count.

Given NBC have 103, probably right - there was me (foolishly) thinking an American network would be better at this than the BBC!

Assumes NBC and ABC have called the same states for them to both be on 103.

Checking web sites, BBC and ABC have called the same states - so one can't add. BBC should be mirroring, or have higher numbers than ABC given what they say about their sources, because they call all the states that ABC call. (As as no state has less than 3 a difference of 1 isn't allowed).

The difference could be Maine (Poportional Representation)

Could anyone please post caps of Sky News or another network? Don't have Sky and would be interested to see their graphics. Thanks

I'm watching the BBC and finding it all rather dull! David Dimbleby is doing his best with Jeremy Vine but there's not much sense of excitement. Unlike a British election there are very few people in sight! No sense of battle as results are declared. No Paxmanesque interviews with significant politicians.

Am I alone in finding it a bit tedious?

I'm actually enjoying the very relaxed atmosphere in the Washington studio. After all it's all going as everyone -in the studio as well as at home- expected, Obama winning by a landslide.

If anyone has trouble viewing Sky on a mac as quite a few of you seem to have..

Install Flip4mac, and try it with firefox. If that fails, make sure you have Windows Media installed as well - it definitely works as I am watching it on my own.

Then ABC would have McCain at 50, but they don't. Both websites give all 4 to Obama.

Compare the maps below:

from the ABC News website.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/a3/US_Electoral_College_Map.PNG/350px-US_Electoral_College_Map.PNG
from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Electoral_College

Add up the blue states:

IL 21
ME 4
NH 4
MA 12
VT 3
CT 7
NJ 15
DE 3
MD 10
DC 3
PA 21
Tot: 103

therefore ABC did their sums wrong.

Interestingly, CNN have only given 3 to Obama and the fourth remains undeclared.

It is worth noting that there can be a difference of fewer than three due to the RP systems in Maine and Nebraska (it might appear that they can't add up - but then again the BBC don't seem to know that these states operate PR).

I'm using this map from CBS5 in San Fran and lists 103 to 49.
