Doesn't that very large 'election desk' in TC7 take a couple of days to set up and test? ISTR Newsnight were moved to N6 on election night last year (if not before) to allow for rehersals/preparation in TC7 (obviously that can't happen this time).

It's a shame ITV have abrogated their responsibility for reporting on this since it's clearly an important event.

Last year Newsnight started in TC7, went to a long VT and afterwards Paxo was in N6.

Don't forget that they've done election nights from Millbank before now, although the power cut the other year might have put paid to that.

London Mayoral results due between 6 and 7 on Friday evening.

London Tonight will be live at City Hall, but not sure what happens if the result doesn't come through till after 6.30

In that case BBC London will have all the luck! I'm sure the national ITV news will cover it though.

Last time round both missed out as there were problems with the vote count and it was announced at 8:30ish

Watching the Daily Politics today they had a big red desk in their studio so I think that answers the question Smile They're obviously taking the risk on the power!

Don't they normally have a big red desk on Wednesdays?

It certainly seemed to be a bigger desk than normal... and I normally have it on on a Wednesday.

It also had just one presenter position (with a computer built-in to the desk) whilst the other presenter today had a laptop.

I thought it was a bigger desk than normal. Usually on Wednesdays they just have extra seats for additional guests for the longer programme and therefore more seats.

ITV have never covered the local elections, so why should they start now. Is the London mayor a big deal outside of London?

It was mentioned on tonights Wales Tonight and they will have more I assume on tommorow's bulletins. It was also mentioned early results will be during the GMTV bulletins on Friday and later in Wales Tonight.

Also Wales has its own political series Sharp End.on Thursdays 11.05pm.

I have recollections of ITV doing local election stuff - they may not have done it in recent years - but ISTR that they have done it in the last 50?

They didn't do anything last year but certainately in the earlier half of this decade, ITV have done coverage, not all night, but they were usually on between 11.00pm and 1.00am.

Didn't ITV Wales have an all nighter last year?

The regions often do a half hour or hour long programme around 11.30pm. But it is pretty pointless really and turns into just a political debate show as the likelyhood of any results coming in during the length of the show is quite low
