This is absolutely right. Paxman was drawing on the conversation he'd just had with Tony Banks (and others) and was, quite fairly, putting the outcomes of that discussion to Galloway.

Amen. Let's not forget Galloway did exactly the same strop when interviewed on BBC LONDON the following morning, demanding to be congratulated for he was the chosen one. And ITV Lunchtime News. And when the Baghdad Blogger attempted to interview him for newsnight, he accused him of being pro-occupation, just because he was anti-Saddam.

Getting a large group of Muslims to vote against a Mixed-Race woman with a Jewish background is not a hard thing to do (Apologies to any more liberal Muslim readers who are offended by this, but it is a sad truth that dirty tactics can be used to bring out this vote). The Respect Coalition is a front for Galloway and the SWP, who have opportunistically tied up with high-ranking Muslim Association of Britain figures (since when has any religion been left wing?)

You may enjoy www.respectcoalition.co.uk (though the author's stance may be a little to far in the opposite direction of Galloway, it is an exceptionally funny read)

Here I come, wading in late but I've got a few videos that people have been asking for:

BBC Midlands Today Election Special

ITV Election 2005 9.25am Opening Titles

ITV Election 2005 Closing Titles (10.30am)

BBC Election 2005 Opening Sting (9.30am)

BBC Election 2005 Extended Closing Titles (Just before 1.00pm - apologies for the massive glitch in the middle)

One might also argue that if Oona King had a remote understanding of her constituency, and had represented them better in Parliament, which is what MPs are there to do after all, she would have voted against the war in Iraq...

Is that a suggestion that you disagree with the Party Whip system?

Thanks for those.

So do we think the ITV theme will go down in history just like the BBC one, looking back at the old years on TV Ark, its definally better than some of the themes they used to use, plus its the first time they've used the same theme tune twice

It freezes on Blair's face, is that a subliminal message?

So the credits were only 3 minutes long (only!) and not 5 mins that people assumed. As others have said, there was no list of the reporters. I think in 2001 there was, as I recall reading them and in and among the list of unknowns names like Anna Ford would be listed. I'm sure they could have fitted them in this time, they could have used a slightly faster scroll.

There were also long credits on ITV although they used an appropriate popular song instead of an extended theme

I just hope that George Galloway makes it into parliament more often than he has done so in the last one, particularly since becoming an independent.

I have a friend who is a researcher for another inner London MP, and they are kept very busy dealing with local issues - how much time will Gorgeous George have for those while "hounding Tony Blair out of office"?

Anyway, getting back on topic - did anyone keep their recorders on past the opening credits, and get shots of Dimbleby the Second declaring the poll results at 10pm on BBC1/2W/2Scotland?

Ha, well, that's deserving of a thread of its own!

To be honest, I don't think there should've been a free vote on Iraq. I'm simply arguing that it shouldn't really have come as any shock to anyone in the party that an MP holding a constituency full of anti-war Muslims, who voted in favour of a war in the Middle East, is kicked out by them a few years later.

Whilst I find Galloway distasteful, he's no fool.

On the subject of Paxman's questioning, I just find the way he goes about things is entirely unproductive. He makes someone look stupid... big deal, anyone can do that if they shout loudly enough. It's rare these days that he actually conducts a genuinely insightful interview.

The Scottish opt out was still an absolute waste of BBC resources and licence fee payers money.

It was a NATIONAL election in which less than 10% of the seats contested were Scottish.

Couldn't agree more. And I''m a Scot living in Scotland.
I found it fascinating the way that on the BBC 1 Scotland continuity they just said and now time for the election programmes. On BBC 2 Scotland continuity they said "If you want a Scottish view of the general election switch to BBC 1 etc". Why not advertise the choice on BBC 1, scared everyone would switch over?

The fact that BBC 1 always gets higher ratings than 2, it's like some people don't have a 2 button on their TV's never figured this out (eg they same way HIGNFY got an extra 1m viewers when switched to 1). The fact that people would automatically assume to watch the election results on the BBC they should switch to BBC 1.

After all this it gets an extra 48,000 viewers. Not a ringing endorsement. What were the ratings last time when the BBC Scotlands show was on BBC 2 and the network on BBC1? Was it embarrassing enough so they switched the channels over?

Highly disagree. Having both options on offer was the best alternative. The political situation in this country is very different from down south, and has four main parties. The main opposition is the SNP, not the Conservatives. So therefore the analysis has to be different. Best to have output from a Scottish perspective, but which isn't completely ignoring what is happening down south.

And showing the network version on BBC2 Scotland means that anyone who doesn't agree can watch that, and also means we don't miss Paxman's interviews. Having suffered politicians getting to spout rubbish without being challenged on all channels during the results show, is it just me or would it be great if Paxman was presenting the whole thing?

How nice does that shot look. Why can't they use a shot like this all of the time on the News Channel, it makes it look so much more professional, although the general onscreen graphics could do with a makeover.

Technically they could change the look of the NewsChannel whenever they want, yet over a year after it's relaunch, they haven't really done much with it.

I certainly prefer that view to floating blue squares.
It adds so much depth to the studio, rather than feeling as though it just ends.

Can anyone tell me more about Tazeen Ahmad, the heavily pregnant BBC reporter who was at one of the London counts?
