Anywa, after all that. I think if you took Sky's studio people, ITV's graphics and the BBC's reporting team, you'd have had a good programme.
Looking at the studio people first, Sky had brilliant presenters and commentators who had stamina to work the longest. Both ITV and the BBC swapped their main presenters at 6am while Sky's carried on, and David Dimbleby while he may have been doing it the longest he stumbles too much and keeps taking breaks to let Paxman do something.
Graphics-wise, I thought there was too much clutter on Sky's screens although the videprinter and live declaration figures was good ideas (excpet the few times they couldn't keep up or they were read out in the wrong order) and the swooshy thing when they declared a Labour victory was fantasic, ITV's graphics were much simpler and easier on the eye throughout. I've always thought News 24's graphics were ugly and the Election night's were no different.
Lastly the BBC seemed to have someone at every count in the country and I got the impression they probably had the most live declarations too, with ITV fewest.
I also thought the BBC's paint-map in Gateshead, ITV's snakes and ladders, and Sky News chasing the Sunderland count in the helicopter all sucessfully made the coverage a bit more fun.
And pity the poor candidate in Cardiff North who only got one vote, but that was amusing. Julie Etchingham said she thought that was a record low.
