ITV really picking up now.

Re: BBC - Huw Edwards is doing a much better job that David Dimbleby - much more watchable. Also, BBC Parliament are screening the Scottish opt-out.

Just a question regarding the BBC - I assume they have regional opt-outs - how are Scotland and Wales dealing with these considering they have their own programmes on BBC1 - and for that matter, BBC News 24.

So did ITV miss the first Conservative Gain?

I like how Sky's Vidiprinter shows gains with a background, making them different from a hold.

Depends what you mean by miss, they didn't take the count but the tally added 1 to the Con figure

Sky are now going to an ad break. Notice their gallery are watching ITV and commenting on what's going on

Do any of you know if RTÉ's coverage is coming from over there or Dublin?
The studio production is being broadcast in 14:9, a first for RTÉ, and the set, lighting, mics and in-studio gadgetry looks decidedly professional, i.e. British Smile

The studio doesn't look like an RTÉ Televison Centre one either - anyone know if they're hiring one out over with you in London? Thanks.

If you watch the RTE coverage carefully and have ever watched Match of the Day, Final Score etc. on BBC One you may have an answer!

RTE are broadcasting from the BBC Sport studio at BBC TV Centre in London.

BBC1 are very old-style - your traditional one presenter, four politicians, odd occasional packaged report style, whereas network BBC and ITV are trying a few new things. They're mainly taking the English results at the moment, because sod all has happened up here so far, but no doubt it will be worth its weight in gold later on when there's a flurry of results and they need to pick and choose. Having said that, this appears to be more of a national-dominated election than ever before - the Lib Dems are gaining rather than the SNP, and network will be watching East Dunbartonshire and Inverness very closely as they could swing to the Lib Dems.

However it's a bit dull on BBC Scotland, as opposed to network BBC, which has Paxman creating havoc, ITV creating their own results and Sky no doubt swooshing every five minutes.

Interesting that the ITN vs BBC "seat calling" issue has surfaced here - it is always a topic of discussion every election.

Basically - the BBC wait for an official declaration (and are used as the Electoral Commission and House of Commons references) - whereas ITN will call a seat when they know (or their reporter on the ground is REALLY sure) the result but it has yet to be declared. AIUI as ballot papers are counted they are separated into Tory, Labour, Lib Dem etc. piles, and you can in many cases see that one pile is a LOT higher than all of the others! ITN would call that, the BBC wouldn't.

Thanks for that noggin - it was probably said at the start but I missed the first few seconds Mad
The English guests are kind of giving it away anyway!

The production values are notably higher than usual, says it all really about RTÉ. The effect on Bryan Dobson and Mark Little is even notable - they look much more professional with decent production values around them!
The lighting is beautiful.

But last time round ITN did get results wrong by doing it that way and had to change them. I also think for the general viewer the fact that they only analyse the 'real' results but have the 'predicted' results on screen must be confusing. Don't see what advantage they get by not waiting for all the full results.

Yep - I saw the top and they said "from Television Centre in London" - but no mention of BBC...

Yes - I agree it is confusing, and I personally I prefer the Beeb's - wait until it is cast in stone before you confirm - method. ITN have historically always tried to be first at all costs - I guess it is one thing they can use to differentiate themselves from the Beeb.

and if we're counting live declarations then BBC missed most of Menzies Campbell's declaration, and Sky missed it completely. ITV had it from the start.
