I don't really think much of John Prescott, but I did admire the way he managed to confuse the news networks today at Prime Minister's Questions:
Ancram:"... The public will have a clear choice on May 5th."
Prescott: "Of course, the election will be on May 5th..."
*House of Commons cheer and jeer*
Sky News Flash - General Election to be on May 5th
BBC News 24 - Prescott announces election on May 5th
Prescott: "...but these will, of course, be the county council elections...."
Bright red quickly disappears off TV screens everywhere. Class.

*EDIT - Guess I'm not that fast at breaking news..

Sir David Frost is to present the overnight election coverage on London's LBC radio:

Yes, and as the post following your clarifies, News 24 did exactly the same thing.
As an aside - looking at the Sky Press Office website, they released their 2001 election coverage details on 2nd of May, a week before the 8th May election announcement.
As such, if Blair announces on the 4th April (as expected) then we should expect, if things run like last time, details to be reveal on the 28th March, so on Monday. Total speculation, of course, but worth considering.

Classic "never wrong for long" moment on Sky News just now ...
Prescott joked about the election being on 5 May - meaning the county council elections - and Sky flashed "General Election to be on 5 May" complete with swoosh...
When Prezza's joke became clear, it was swiftly removed.

well from what i have seen/heard of itn's efforts, i am not building up much hope! the results centre looks ... tiny, compared to previous elections. sounds like the theatre of news will be home to the main bit, perhaps with the results centre used as a backdrop.
not sure if this has been posted yet, so i will post a small piccy to give an idea of the bbc's graphics this time round.

Good point.
Will be interesting to see what they go for this time.
Last time had 2 'Your Call' programmes during the day - the first was with Bob Friend and Anna Botting. Bob Friend was hilarious; almost like the first time he'd encountered the general public.
The evening had two 'Boulton Factor' shows 7pm and 11pm, and the weekly 'Forum' question time events.
Hopefully Sky will make a better graphical effort on election night - it was pretty poor compared to the Beeb/ITN last time... actual coverage was just as good, but they were pretty slow at getting graphs and share of vote charting up on-screen.

Nice to see they've gone back to using the word 'Election', rather than 'Vote' which we had in 2001 which sounded a bit tacky and American IMO.
Interesting as well that they've returned to the colours of the three main parties only. Last time the titles had green swooshes along with the red, blue and yellow ones.

I thought his party's official colour was orange.

That doesn't mean much. In 2001 I seem to remember they used Election 2001 during the campaign, but switched to Vote 2001 on election day.
