Has anyone else noticed the lack of SENIOR political correspondents today. NO sign of Marr, Mardell, Ray or Robinson on any main bulletin. A sure sign that the rehearsals are well underway perhaps????

I'm sure that rehearsals are underway but most of the senior political correspondents which you mention tend not to work on Fridays, as there is less activity in parliament at the end of the week. They are probably taking advantage of their free Fridays while they can, because as the election will be held on a Thursday, they will have to drag themselves to their desk the following day to analyse the results!!

From Nick Robinson's column in The Times today:

THERE’S NO need to wait for polling day. I can tell you who’ll win. I can reveal which prominent politician will go missing. I know which count will be disrupted and which pressure group will be to blame. This week ITV News staged Election 2005, complete with mock results, scandals and shocks. I could tell you what happened but I don’t want to spoil it.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, yet but BBC News is going big on 3G for the election....they're basically recruiting a "Voters' Panel", who will each be equiped with a 3G phone and training on how to use it.

They'll record their reactions to events during the campaign and send them in for broadcast on BBC News 24, BBC Breakfast and available via bbc.co.uk.

Sounds like an interesting idea, although of course every party and every viewpoint will inevitably have to receive equal airtime.

You can join the "Voters' Panel" HERE

Only a couple of weeks away from the announcement now.

A few guesses: Sky will go for a revamp on the scale of 2001 - new idents, straps, the works?
Theirs will probably be the most drastic - new ticker? A little poll 'bug' like last time? Imagine they might fill the lower 3rd of the screen with graphics constantly... sort of Sky Sports News esq, but that might be a bit far even for them.
Personally, expect that if they do then that set will last them through to the launch of the new studio centre.

Beeb: We've already heard about their mess with the red graphics, but these cubes have suddenly started appearing in their political coverage, so something along those lines?

ITV: Does anyone watch the news on this network anymore?

I actually find that remark quite offensive, cat. I work on the ITN side of the ITV News Group, and I find that the national news coverage of ITV 1 one of the more reliable, honest and trustworthy news and credible "enemy" to the competiton, and millions of other people must think that too.
True, ITV News does not have many viewers as ITN News used to, but it has a top team of household newscasters and reporters who can get more viewers because of this, with historic exclusive reports such as during the recent Gulf War and actually got more awards than Sky & BBC Television combined.

I'm glad you found it offensive.

I'd be more than happy to insult anyone who worked at ITN during the 90s-today period and sat back and allowed the organisation to go from one of the best news networks in the world to one that attempts to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

No qualms about saying that whatsoever.

Yes, check the figures. If you know how.

Surely you're in danger of being hoisted by your own logic here? You talk about the mess with red graphics and then predict that the cubes (which are very red) will appear in the BBC's election coverage... the cubes which you claim have started appearing in the BBC's political coverage... where exactly? you mean the cubes which appeared on Budget day? just as they did last year? er, but nowhere inbetween... nor where they used on News 24's 'Trust in Politics' opinion poll results last Friday...

I saw them used during a political report to illustrate polling figures, and made the assumption that as they had been seen during the budget, then later reports, that they might in some way be integrated into the election graphics.

Frankly, I cannot remember back to election day of last year and the choice of shapes the BBC used in their political coverage. I do not feel that this reflects badly on my character, but clearly you take the opposite view.

Christ, this place has gone to the dogs.

I do, thank you very much.

And they say "Down. A lot."

Just thought that I would mention that in the week ending 27 February the news bulletin with the highest audience on any channel was the Sunday evening ITV Weekend News.

Granted it doesn't happen every week and it's got a lot to do with inheritance, but I think it's a bit premature to write ITV News off completely as a contender.
