It's been up and running since the start of the week.

I think the BBC are only doing the Gateshead thing because ITV got the London Eye. I remember being 7 years old and watching Decision 79 with David Dimbleby hosting for the very first time and Bob Mackenzie's last election appearance with the Swingometer. When I think election I always expect David Dimbleby, but part of me thinks this is either his last or penultimate one as host. The Beeb look to be grooming Huw Edwards to be the new Dimbleby, but Paxman will be looking to get it. Looks like we're going to be in for a news version of the Leno/Letterman/Carson struggle over The Tonight Show.

Decision 79 was also when the BBC debuted 'that' theme and I hope they bring it back because the new theme was rubbish as was the rearrangement of the original in Election 97. The BBC love building massive sets in Studio 1, when you watch BBC Parliament they show old election broadcasts with Cliff Michelmore and on one occasion Sir Alistair Burnett!!

Can't wait for tonight.... IT'S THE BATTLE OF THE GRAPHICS!!

Not enough flashing lights and moving graphics, eh?

The graphics there look thankfully understated and static. Much nicer than Sky's garish graphics packages.

The BBC interactive layout and content seems a lot less superfluous than Sky's 'sixteen' screens.

I like both BBC and Sky, but Sky's presentation this election has been crap. Their content and coverage have been fine however.

Not sure what I think about the two options. Well, I don't have DSat so I can't enjoy the sixteen screens. As much as it's got a great 'wow' factor and I'd be like a kid in a sweet shop with so much choice, I think I would tire of it pretty quick and be worried I was missing out on something on the main programme. Excellent for people wanting to see specific constituencies of individual interest though, and I'm glad Sky are using their interactive capabilities to do this.

I kindof agree that Sky's graphics have been a little disappointing (though the BBC's aren't that great either really - a little too dark I think), but I'd probably rather they didn't go all out and blow the budget on election graphics, especially when the money could probably be better spent on 'long term' new graphics when they get their re-vamp.

What revamp?

The "Sky News - New Format?" thread details all the speculation about new studios and changes proposed at the channel.

Sorry for 3 posts in a row- but the BBC studio is always (OK, at least since 92) ridiculously lavish....it's the kind of thing that can be justified for the public service broadcaster for just 12 hours of TV.

But I'm always left feeling that this is kind of how News 24 should be all the time- I think I'll have the same feeling on Thursday, but we'll probably see that kind of News 24 studio before Brown calls the next election (two assumptions- both pretty safe)....of course I'm talking about the new broadcasting house- I have a funny feeling that any initial plans for News 24's space in the building will be torn up and redrawn after Sky reveal their new mammoth studio (probably in June).

You gotta compete after all.

When BBC News moves out of Television Centre what are going to happen to the studios and the massive office space where the journalists work? Can't wait for the Sky News revamp, I think all of the other news broadcasters will be looking on in envy the same way they did when they saw teh graphics on The Day Today!! Seriously, when TV bosses saw those graphics they wished their news programmes had them.

I couldn't disagree with you more, I'm afraid.

I don't see what is superfluous about offering people the choice of watching their own constituency declare... I'd say that was a pretty good idea, to be honest, and taking advantage of the resources available to them.

I think Sky's presentation has been excellent. Whilst I'm no fan of their regular news look, the election graphics have been smartly designed, very well co-ordinated, and I an perplexed at the notion that they are 'garish'... they are coloured depending on the parties.

I'm really quite baffled by your argument, actually.

Could it *just* be that the two different styles address your differing tastes? There doesn't have to be a logical reason every time!

Well I thought that if I tuned into the 'Six' that I'd get a sneak peak of Election Night on BBC1. Have to say the set isn't too bad, as for the graphics well I'd expected more from the swingometer. Graphically ITV might be better this year Exclamation Exclamation Shocked

I'm assuming that News 24 and BBC1 are simulcasting most (if not all) of the program tonight?

The graphics that have been posted here, certainly fit in nicely with N24's graphics (i.e. the tower), but where did these come from?

I've scoured the press packs on the website, but nowhere except the listings (which show N24 and One having the same schedule overnight) does it suggest there's a simulcast on TV.

David Dimbleby has just been on BBC News 24, sat in this years studio, which looks like it may be based within the newsroom. He said that Ian Hislop will be with him tonight, but he is also meant to be at the ITV election party on the thames.
