I love watching the election for the computer graphics, for years the BBC and Peter Snow had the best but I think they were caught out last time by ITV. Peter just had a virtual reality swingometer and ITV had a virtual reality studio, since then the BBC have been playing catch-up and I expect spectacular stuff tonight. I didn't think ITV's virtual reality looked too bad. Quite intrigued to hear the BBC have a whole virtual reality studio.

Here's the multi-headlined 1 o'clock BBC News simulcast if anyone wants to have a gander (unfortunatley due to webspace reasons, I had to cut the lovely 50 second countdown beforehand ):
patrick said, and i quote "its a new departure for us, here in the midlands we will have constant screen updates throughout the night ..."
are we talking about an election version of kays system (or perhaps not) or a midlands ticker over network, or is patrick getting excited over some graphics they'll overlay during midlands opts?
have we had local election info overlayed onto network before? is patrick talking about a ticker? and are all the regions bothering?
Yes there are no traditional opt-outs, each region will overlay graphics at the bottom of the screen with local results

http://www.bbc.co.uk/home/images/main_promo/news/bbc_election_team_r_1.jpg Why's Jan Hill on this picture? What'll be her input to the coverage? Is News 24 simulcasting with BBC One all night, and if so how will they cover the rest of the news? Will there be opt outs for N24 to do headlines now and again, and is this where Jane comes in?
Some pics from the BBC's set up at Gatehead Quayside. Basically a large white board with a UK map on it and each of the 646 constituencies outlined ready to coloured in, a huge paint by numbers if you will.
The camera will probably be mounted at the top of the Baltic Art Gallery looking down straight onto the map.

I think the 1992 swingometer was my favourite. It had a proper mechanical arm which controlled the on-screen graphics behind it - a rather nice hybrid of new and old!
