Yes I was going to say that it reminded me of the old national set. It also reminded me of the old newsroom background on 1999 national set, mainly because it was on two levels. The set looks absolutely huge! Snow's graphics are ok, the set he presents them in are designed to look like the rest of the main set I guess, with shiny beech wood flooring, and glass steps up to the main presenting wall.

The 'Liberal Democrat Targets' wall looked good, with the seats listed, then flipping like a train departure board to reveal what the Lib Dems could win. After that Peter Snow selected a seat, which popped out and expanded to show which Tories could loose their seats.

Hope we see a return of the steps to Number 10 graphic!

Not sure if it has been a regular feature - but first time I've caught it - Peter Snow going over a lot of the election "figures" which showed pretty much at length the election graphics and studio (so far).

Looked good - although Peter Snow's swingometer graphics looked like they're in an apartment.

No doubt this has been a regular feature each week and I will now look like a fool.

This is the first time they showed the election night studio on Newsnight Saturday, previously they had been showing behind the scenes in the One/Six/Ten studio, where Peter Snow had been doing his pieces on the opinion polls for the news bulletins (green chromakey area is opposite the main news set). The main difference with the graphics is that the backdrop of the chromakeyed area is different, to mix in with the look of the real set, whereas the opinion poll pieces use a backdrop like the news set.

The election night set is interesting - from the brief glimpses we got of it - it has a balcony area like the 2001 set had, and it is mostly light colours, mostly cream, with plenty of wood flooring.

Where is the election studio? Is it at TVC as it appears huge.

I beleive it's Studio 1, but not sure, maybe some BBC people could give more acurate details....
The election is finally heading into the home straight, and personally I look forward to its end!
Election night looks quite interesting with the BBC/ITV coverage. Personally Bremner, Bird and Fortune Special wins...

Indeed it is in studio 1 at television centre. There is a balcony with wooden flooring going all the way around the studio. The Peter Snow's VR area is on one part of the balcony, opposite is a small white lit BBC News style desk with a projection of the 'newsroom' we now see on the Nationals (I guess that is where Fiona will sit). Downstairs in the middle we have the main desk which is round and looks exactly like the election logo when you look down on it. The whole set has a warm homely feel to it. More desks around the studio.

What shows usually come from Studio 1? Is this the big block like building which has the spots and the BBC Television Centre sign on it (below)?

It looks like the CBeebies logo - kiddies channel.

I might be wrong though. Nevertheless it looks funny.

Interesting story in tomorrow's Sunday Times:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,19809-1591559,00.html

All about BBC dismissing ITV coverage as gimmicky.

Interesting re: comments about speed of results. ITV do always get there first, but this is only because they report results before they are officially declared, which leads to countless clarifications of results and corrections of f-ck ups throughout the night.

Last time, IIRC, it was roughly:

ITV about 30 minutes before anyone else, with Dimbleby and John Sergeant looking at a great big plasma screen waiting for '330' to appear next to the Labour vote.

Followed by BBC at 58 minutes past whatever hour it was (2?), with Peter Snow getting totally confused and someone having to shout across the studio to him that Labour had got past the winning post

And Sky at 59 minutes past, with Peter Mandelson looking miserable as sin, despite having just won, prompting Boulton to remark with a hint of sarcasm ''you're over the top then''.

Sky are promising the fastest results programme this time, but I'd be amazed if that were the outcome. I generally prefer Boulton to Dimbleby 1 and 2, so will go with them for that if nothing else. Will be interesting to see their vidiprinter, though.

I guess there'll also be some shots of the outside of TVC during the coverage, as they've installed a rather large ticker on the roof of TC1.

BBC are also going to have a UK map drawn on Gateshead Quayside and will be colouring it in depending on the results.
