In the Times today, it mentioned that Andy Marr,
may
step down as political editor to take up the Sunday morning slot that Sir David leaves after this years election.
Sissons will provide a fill-in until the Autumn when the new presenter is revealed. Jeremy Vine was also in the running.
Would be a shame if he stepped down as political editor - but perhaps would be too much work, considering he has a young family.
If he does step down as political editor, and does present the new show - perhaps it would allow him to present a couple of live political shows through the week for News 24?
Yes, it would be a shame if he stood down - he is charismatic and one of only a handful of news reporters that most people in the country recognises irrespective of whether they are members of a tv forum.
Good riddance to obscure metaphors would be my first reaction if he stepped down.
He undeniably knows what he's talking about, it's just such a shame that he clouds it in complete twaddle and childishness in order to appeal to the lowest-common-denominator Six O'clock News viewer. I find him very patronising.
Political editors come and go. I doubt that with the wealth of correspondents the Beeb have they'd be stuck to find another. I'd much rather see Mark Mardell doing the job.
Just on the point of interviews and Paxman, etc...
Howard didn't overrule Derek Lewis. It was disclosed under the FOI Act recently.
I'm confused as to why they're making a great big thing about these interviews over at the Beeb... they always get them. Last time they were solely on Newsnight, can't remember what ITV did, and Adam Boulton did the interviewing on Sky, in which he almost killed William Hague.

Ah, but did he
threaten
to overrule him...?
Didn't Howard finally answer 'no' during the Newsnight piece where he followed him round Cornwall.
In other news, Tony Blair is currently giving Paxo more than a run for his money, and The Sun are running an "election chimney" to show the results of their decision on who to back (more at thesun.co.uk, and Media Guardian's Media Monkey. Media Guardian also reporting now that The Sun will back Blair)

Oh, aye, well... it might've been that it was disclosed that he didn't THREATEN to overrule, or it might've been disclosed that he actually didn't. I can't remember now. But it was one or the other.
Thank God someone (Paxman) has finally asked what the difference is between 5000 Rover workers losing their jobs and 100,000+ civil servants losing theirs, and why politicians are running around worrying about one and boasting about the other
Excellent use of the ticker on News 24 at the moment - the bus is in Gateshead and the ticker is givng a blow by blow history of the politics of the north east and information about Gateshead itself.

It does it every day dependent on where the bus stops but you're right it is quite useful in giving someone who isn't local a decent basic understanding of the area.
