If ITN can produce a high-quality product like this for Channel 4 why can't they emulate it for ITV News?

Surely there must be more money and resources for ITV News but it seems to be the poor relation!

Because ITV Network Centre doesn't want a C4 News style broadcast. They are far happier to have the dumbed down, consumer-ist style of the current ITV News.

Because they do what their clients want.

Scotland is getting the regional programme on ONE! Why?

It was on BBC TWO Scotland last time, which gives us the choice, not like there's anything else on overnight. What will be on TWO anyway, given that News 24 will be simulcasting ONE? Why do BBC Scotland insist on doing this? While the rest of the country gets groundbreaking interactive coverage from a huge studio complex, we'll get Anne and Jackie, probably from the Newsnight Scotland set!

They'll probably replace the QT special with Alex Salmond and Tommy Sheridan as well. Mad

(Although I get Anglia TV here I am from Scotland, which is why it bothers me)

There seems less justification than ever for this move by BBC Scotland. We now have our own "parliament", such as it is. So we have fewer MP's than ever. Would it not be better just to opt when the network does local council stuff ?

Besides as I remember there is precious little English coucil coverage on these shows anyway as there is a slightly more important election happening.

Lets hope News24 is carrying the real election programme.

I wish News24 would carry the full newsnight too.

News24 will be carrying the Dimbleby programme.

BBC World will have its own programme with Nik Gowing

I can't say I agree about Newsnight Scotland. It really is a good programme and was second to none during the endless days of the Frazer Enquiry.

I am grateful for the fact that we get in depth discussions and analysis of Scottish issues every weeknight. Oftentimes the subject matter is pretty dry, but I'd sooner learn something about issues geographically relevant to me.

It's very disappointing to hear Scots say they would rather not have a Scottish version at all.

A compromise position would surely be to add the English version to the red button on digital.

Oh I don't want it scrapped Gav, having Reporting Scotland as the only BBC Scotland news source would be disasterous. The problem is the fact it is shown on top of the English show. Either having the English one continue on press red or having them move it to another time slot (there's a rubbish show between 6.30and 7 that could do with a bit more news in it) would be fine. The problem I have with the show is it not being up to the standard of the previous show.

Same with The World, it's not a bad show, it's just pathetic in comparison to BBC4 News. It used to report on things other shows did not like political problems in the far east. All TW talks about is Palestinian Women night after night.

I wonder if 49 + 30 minutes would be just too much Newsnight (if they were to play them back to back).

You're not wrong about The World though. It's drab drab drab.

five don't seem to be taking advantage of the Sky News services they have. For example, when the Pope died they didn't use Sky News overnight or anything. No doubt they had porn or sport!

I'm fairly sure that previous BBC Scotland election programmes came from Studio A; that said they were for Scottish Parliament ones.

Perhaps we'll get something akin to Children in Need: "seamless" opts covering up bits of network stuff.

I think as well (but could be wrong) that the counts for local council elections don't start until after the general election results have been called.

Unless...and I stress this is speculation...BBC are planning something about the councils on TWO or NEWS 24. Then Scottish viewers would have the double whammy of a half-baked election programme, or local council elections. Though if that were to happen, surely someone at QMD would have the sense to put national election on TWO, since English local elections definitely don't matter compared to general election.[/quote]

Half baked - yet more relevant to Scottish viewers than English council elections???

Although I am not sure why folk are so unhappy here. Is it that

1) They want to see what is happening across the UK (this would be covered in the proposed set up)

2) The snazzy graphics and resources will be limited at QMD (so what - the coverage will be relevant and not the set of Eurovision)

3) Our journalists are crap and cannot be trusted to produce a credible election programme.(I won't even dignify this one!!)

Lets face it while London will always be Disney World - I don't see QMD as being on the same par as Cadona's Amusement Park in Aberdeen.

Studios have improved at QMD - and if you think that is rough look at the archive of Grampian's Queen Cross days. A programme is not just about the glamourous graphics, titles and an older male headmasterly telling off naughty politicians - we have moved on somewhat (I hope)

Anyway - I have a life - I'm more outraged at not getting any Irn Bru at my grocers tonight!! Laughing
