Those budget cuts are really hitting, aren't they.

Do you ever have anything worthwhile to contribute?

What are you doing in an election thread when you're not even old enough to vote?

OK, dog.........................woops, I mean Cat.

Impressive - you just conclusively proved his point AND made yourself look like even more of a ***** than before. Good going there.

Just seen Sky's graphics, thanks Cat. By no means are they awful, just not as classy as they could have been.

Interesting that Tony Blair, while making his announcement outside number 10, was wearing a radio mic on his tie - I assume he was miked up in the car, and the sound feed was pooled.

Slightly disappointed that the BBC's graphics are much the same (apart from the Election Live bug), but I'd imagine we'll be getting a new title sequence for some programmes. Horrible website though.
Peter Snow's über-studio looked alright, but the background was rather dodgy. I think you can see the join between some of the photos on the virtual window. I love the arms on the swingometer, though.
And that battle-bus. Complete with illuminated table! Had that been kept under wraps until now?

Sky's virtual Commons was pretty spiffy too, but it's let down a little by having a tiny presenter standing at the back. I wonder if they could do one from a different angle, using the side-on shot?
The 1200 TOTH was the slickness we've come to expect from Sky, hopefully they can keep it up..

Well the News 24 effort is appalling.

A misshaped LIVE bug (no space for location)

And it seems we're going to have a ticker that rotates with the party colours and information every few seconds....the "Election 2005" ticker just looks a dirty brown colour until you look closely and see it's got that standard "BBC Target" graphic.

Only thing I like so far is the spinning background behind the two-way- now that is beautiful.

In addition to N24's ELECTION LIVE bug, there's also a dedicated Election split-screen, and special ticker masthead backgrounds with a three-colour masthead for "ELECTION"; yellow for Lib Dems, blue for Tories; and a bright red one for Labour which doesn't look very different from the Breaking News ticker masthead really.

I'd have thought they'd change the main headline area to dark grey at least, rather than the standard red.

Yep- seems like News 24 won't be dropping the red til election night, when presumably we'll see something like the grey graphics we saw for local election nights....can't blame them- it would look so dreary if they used grey for the next 30 days.

By the way, can anyone explain this "INTEREST INDEX 0" thing that is running where the polls are on Sky News every so often...is it like the 'worm' they used for immediate reaction to the budget a few years ago?

The News 24 'Election Live' bug is an interesting idea... but the red on it looks a bit of a mess. I like their use of the ticker, but they never have enough on it to make it worthwhile; it loops after about two minutes.

Sky have updated their ticker bugs to include the election logo, but that bug needs to be sorted out. It won't be, but here's hoping.

Shame they've not put any new titles to air as yet, and we've heard nothing of either channel's plans for their schedules. Sky's was excellent last time, but you get the feeling that all the channels are making less of an effort this time.

It was on BBC One/News24 with Peter Snow.

It looked horrific; the background looked like it'd been done on the cheap. Especially when compared to the classy 2001 virtual studio he had.

Sky had a nice newswall/floormap virtual world. Had to do a double take, because it looked like a virtual studio but wasn't.

Snow didn't have a virtual studio on the One/Six/Ten in 2001 - it was a bog-standard static multi-level CSO. No camera movement at all.

If you mean his virtually-augmented real studio for the main election programme, this only appeared on election day, and wasn't used regularly for the main bulletins.

If the Beeb continue with this 3D real VR (with depth and parallax, unlike the totally flat ITN Theatre of News system) it will be the first time that Peter has had a full VR set regularly on the main BBC One bulletins I think.

Does anybody know if there's a timetable for where the BBC Election Bus will be over the next month (please don't attack me, I'm asking because I'd like to see it as I'm hoping to become a journalist)?

Has anyone got any pictures of the BBC bus? I'm guessing it must be rather large if they are going to present the Six from inside.

The interest index was explained earlier. Sky have commissioned YouGov (the darling of the polling industry... because it's cheap and was the most accurate at election 01) to track interest in particular issues and there will be an aggregate score of 'interest' in the campaign overall composed from all of the figures.
