BBC News has Doucet/Alagiah/Bowen/Willcox/Simpson/Davis/Pannell/Wingfield-Hayes all on the ground. A very impressive line-up indeed. From what I saw last night, Tim Willcox has taken over Lyse's rooftop position, Lyse is now down on the main square, and George Alagiah did the Six also from the roof. It (The Six) was partially simulcast on World, but was very UK-centric, with references to "the number of Briton's in Egypt......and so on". They cut away fairly early-on, back to Lucy Hockings in London.

With the BBC reporting the authorities are confiscating broadcasting equipment from journalists, it should be an interesting day of coverage.

Though it's just been clarified that that was BBC Arabic staff arriving at Cairo airport, rather than anyone in the city.

Tim Willcox just mentioning where they are in Cairo.

Said they were standing on boxes on the roof of the building, and someone just fell off one of the boxes. (Camera panned out to show set-up, and the person who fell off standing right in the corner). Shame I couldn't have done a video clip of that!

Jim Muir and Jon Leyne have also been reporting from Cairo for TV, as have Kevin Connolly and John Sudworth for Radio. Frank Gardner has been covering from the UK as well.

splitting at 12:47... BBC News Channel has business with Simon Jack, and BBC Two has the UK opt-out business news with Aaron Haslehurst, whilst BBC World News has an ad break.

Is this Tim Willcox's first time leading the One? BBC One introduced it as the News at One with Tim Willcox and Sophie Raworth?

Odd...

BBC News Channel countdown without the number countdown (e.g. like ahead of BBC Weekend News bulletins), followed by the "Impact" (BBC World News) music crashing in, then Tim welcoming viewers to Impact, then Jon Sopel and Emily Maitlis butting in with more headlines for the News Channel, then being cut off by the BBC News Titles and then returning to Tim Willcox in Egypt.

A BBC World News/BBC News Channel TOTH mash-up...!

Yes, clearly attempts to coordinate world and the news channel for the TOTH went very wrong just then - after the titles interrupted Emily mid sentence you could still hear her and Jon talking, presumably trying to figure out what had happened before we rejoined Tim, who already seemed to have started talking - Jon and Emily looked very confused throughout the sequence!

Indeed, I just posted my observations on the same events in the News Channel thread. The simulcasts are generally nowhere near that bad; sometimes when things go wrong, they all go wrong at once.

Agreed, and over the past few days, this was the first time it failed so miserably, it's usually flawless.
