Anyone know where Sky's Ian Woods is? He was with the rebels earlier but he hasn't been on air this evening as the story developed.

CNN talking live to their reporter in the Rixos hotel who says the government minders and security have all left. Not to be flippant but surely that means that, if safe, he could go outside and report on what is happening in the city itself rather than inside the hotel?

Edit: I suppose perhaps I am being unfair, it could be very dangerous outside - although it didn't stop Alex Crawford.

It's essential for them to get on the streets now, just nearing the quality of Alex Crawford's convoy round the streets is where they need to go. The BBC live page suggested another correspondent in the capital but can't be named. How many more Beeb people do we know are there? Jeremy Bowen/John Simpson should have been on to this story already!!

I'm not exactly sure, but I've seen reports from Rupert Wingfield-Hayes and Orla Guerin on the BBC network news tonight. I think they were in other Libyan cities though.

I haven't seen CNN this evening, but I really do have to question what the heck is going on at that organisation of late. They seem to be airing a lot of CNN US output on a daily basis, they've cut back on the number of live news programmes (for instance, World Sport, World Business Today and Quest Means Business ought to be back half hour fodder, not TOTH material - and how many editions of Piers Morgan Tonight do they really need to show in 24 hours?!)

All the international channels show their daily programmes 3 or 4 times a day, otherwise not everyone's going to see it

CNN does seem to be on the decline of late, it's certainly not the force it once was. Unsurprisingly it has struggled to compete with AJE on the big international stories this year. Judging sort of things I've seen highlighted on The Daily Show recently CNN domestic is in a far worse state - obsessed by silly gimmicks and Twitter

Why is ALJ in BenGHAZI when the heart of the story is in Tripoli?

Yes that's always been the case - BBC World has shown several repeats of HardTalk each day for years and Click is also repeated heavily for a few days. However, to the best of my knowledge, Larry King was only repeated once on CNN after the initial live airing. When Piers Morgan took over they added another repeat during European primetime. The major difference between the BBC and CNN here is that the BBC's programmes are only 30 minutes long and can easily be slotted in after news bulletins. PMT is an hour long and therefore reduces the amount of live news coverage on CNN by 3 whole hours every day. Add to that all the simulcasts with CNN US, Quest Means Business, and the hours that are taken up with World Sport and World Business Today and I'm sure you can see where I'm coming from. The amount of live news on CNN now is shockingly poor. If BBC World can manage to have a full international news bulletin every hour, as well as regular business and sport updates, then I see no reason why CNN can't.

Surely other broadcasters should take these Sky pictures live? Nothing short of extraordinary.

Edit: Fox News taking the Sky pictures.

Reminds me of David Chater reporting on the day the Sadamm statue fell in Baghdad.

And remember World schedule (weekday) does not have those 30 minutes program anymore except Friday and the weekends. So they have more live news and then CNN does

I count business shows as live news too, it doesn't matter if it's not a regular news bulletin.

Sky really only worth watching tonight, miles ahead of everyone.

I'm sure they will, Sky's pictures are distributed via AP, however they're all restricted along the lines of: 'No UK, No CNN, Al Jazeera English, no Euronews' so you won't see them on any of their rivals

CNN should just be forgotten about now. Absolutely appalling coverage. Steve Dixon nicely named producer and cameraman who are with Alex Crawford. These images are worth their weight in gold. Come on BBC.
