Very disappointing. Not even a new coffee table. In summary then - the same set with a black floor and some odd rostrum shaped floor markings by the coffee table + a new Sports area which is basically some panels and looks quite odd as there is no lightbox above it.
Like Newsround it has been hyped up far too much. If EMT call that a change then South Today had about 6 in the 1999-2008 era.
A change of flooring is quite a big deal though, as to do it properly, they may well have had to remove the whole set, relay the floor then put it all back in again. If they whole shebang was being done then it makes sense to refresh certain bits of the set whole the whole thing is dismantled. For a wholescale set change, many regions have decamped for a full week to a second studio (as Southampton did during their last set change) or a temporary set in the newsroom or reception (as Bristol did).
Well it has certainly smartened things up a bit - but why they persist on using that skyline backdrop I've no idea. During this evening's programme, they displayed several other graphics on the projectors to introduce stories and the quality was up to what you would expect - so no idea why this background suffers from what appears to be a low resolution image.
When it's dark in the evening, on close ups, you just end with a muddy brown mess behind the presenter - not exactly the most inviting image!

It's only people here though really hyping it up. Sadly in the era of generic news there isn't too much they can do, especially when BBC revamps to the national look haven't been too drastic over the last 15 years.

Personally I'd class that as a new set design as it's got a totally different feel on-screen compared to the old design. Looks really nice actually.
