That description originates from then-presenter Jeremy Bowen, in a newspaper interview some years after he left Breakfast (and by which time Breakfast had since revamped at least once).
Indeed it does, and it amused me so much at the time that I have always remembered it.
Is there flexibility for some regions to do their Sunday Politics opt live? I've been under the impression they're all pre-recorded (except the nations), yet on yesterday's East Midlands opt, there was a report making use of Sunday morning's newspaper covers ahead of the Leicester City match, meaning some part of the programme was produced fairly close to broadcast. The options seem to be A) the entire opt was done live, B) the opt was prerecorded, but the report was done on the day, and a link was prerecorded into the package beforehand, and then the report slotted in, or C) everything was prerecorded and preprepared as usual, with only one part of the report containing topical information that was recorded on the day, with the rest of the report done in advance.

Was it part of a studio discussion, just a report or the 60 second feature?
In the immediate run-up to an election the opts are sometimes done live, as during a fast-moving campaign a programme recorded on Friday won't necessarily be very relevant on Sunday
I suspect it is up to each region how they resource their Sunday opts on a week-by-week basis, though equally I suspect that the general move to a Friday pre-record means that there is less money around than there may have been previously, so funding a full crew on a Sunday will require money to be found from somewhere.

I imagine East Mids would have gone live due to the football.
To be fair, the conversation wasn't really centred around anything that couldn't have been pre-recorded on Friday afternoon. The report talked about how Leicester could capitalise on winning the league economically or something like that, and the only thing that I imagine really needing filming on the day were the front pages of the Sunday papers - the vox pops and the rest could have been done in advance. As for the link and studio discussion afterwards, it could have all been live, or they could have just been clever in making sure all the guests act as if it was Sunday morning.
