I think Dutch public broadcaster (NOS) is pretty boring and plain-looking.
The intro, theme and studio is not quite what it used to be. It's all screens, and walking, and ugly black and grey..
In 1995 the NOS had a very nice and quite authoritarian theme which was different troughout the day, but with the key elements still in it, like the gong and the instruments.

Theme used since 2012:

I think the current theme is rather bland, though I do think that with some alterations, it could be really good. That being said, the 2005 NOS theme was always my favourite:

And you might be interested in this - about 10 years ago, someone remixed the 1988 theme to bring it up-to-date:

Well the 2005 theme was indeed really nice, but the set was not great. It could have used some extra elements. Also the JeugdJournaal intro of that time was really flashy, and it's just epilepsy in one word. The JeugdJournaal intro was greatly improved in 2012.

Oh yeah, I agree entirely. Fun fact - originally, the set designers didn't want there to be a screen on the set, as their vision was that the set would be a 'hub'. There's a video somewhere on here where the chief designer, Martin Lambie-Nairn, explains his reasoning.

I'm an RTL Nieuws and Hart van Nederland stalwart. I try and catch up with their bulletins daily.

It was a shame that Actie Nieuws from SBS6 never caught in the two incarnations of the show.

Personally, Hart van Nederland IMO has the best it's been for a while. Nice titles and the music is back to what is was from SMP Amsterdam.

Am I right in thinking that SBS has rebranded SBS6 to just 'Zes'? I've noticed that the VO on HVNL is now 'Live op Zes'.

AIUI the second incarnation of Actie Nieuws actually did very well, but it was too expensive to produce, hence its axing.

As for rebranding SBS6, I do believe that that is the plan eventually; as I understand it, the SBS brand is being phased out, hence why SBS6 is now being referred to as just 'Zes'. Officially it is still currently called SBS6, though.

SBS6 have a few news programmes that have just disappeared. How long did Het Nieuws run for before they axed that as well?

I have no idea, but on another topic, I've seen a pattern between RTL Nieuws and NOS Journaal rebrands dating from 2001.
In my theory RTL Nieuws comes 2 years after the NOS rebrands, with simmilair concepts. But please note that this could all just be some coincidence.

NOS Journaal 2001 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=if-vjQq1-rY
RTL Nieuws 2003 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSQpx9E-JXE
Simmilairities: Both blue, globe in the center.

NOS Journaal 2005 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T63VN31ydTE
RTL Nieuws 2007 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mRIjaDX90I
Simmilairities: Globe, both studios look as if they have a lot of space behind the desk.

NOS Journaal 2012 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8RAEor-93A
RTL Nieuws 2014 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExwLpV1Dir0
Simmilairities: Presenters present while standing/walking, both studios now have very large screens.

The NOS released a new studio in 2016, but the question is if RTL Nieuws will get a new studio too, with maybe even updated titles.

EDIT: This is just a theory. Nothing of this has been proven.

Not exactly Dutch, but Flemish from Belgium. Flemish is more pronounced than Dutch.

While we're on the topic of Flemish TV, I always thought that their news programmes were more ahead of their time with their presentation than those of the Dutch broadcasters. Compare this intro from the NOS, introduced in 2001 (and which lasted until the end of 2005)...

...with this from the VRT, introduced a year later in 2002:

And it's worth noting that the VRT was, AIUI, one of the first broadcasters in the world to produce the news in 16:9 (they switched in early 2002, whereas most broadcasters didn't switch until about 2007).

EDIT: Forgot to add the VRT's 2008 look... (insert hearts for eyes emoji...):

According to this link here, it ran from 1999 to 2003. If you're interested in Dutch TV, and have a spare couple of hours, I wholeheartedly recommend you have a good read of the site I just linked to. Name any Dutch programme and there's a good chance that they will have an article on it, and there are some really interesting tidbits of info, too. (For example, the reason that Hart van Nederland only has female presenters is to appeal to the largely male audience)
