She made a brief appearance in this weeks Fortunately podcast, which is recorded in and around BH. When she was spotted by Jane Garvey, she said 'oi Samira, lend us a fiver!' Very Happy

People need to be careful, someone said that where I work to someone who settled and they made a fresh grievance of bullying!

If Newswatch and/or Samira Ahmed does get axed, then I think it's highly likely she will struggle to find another role in the industry. I can't see any employer being desperate to take her on after this. I'm all for gender equality but this reeks of opportunism.

She can retire now.

You both realise what you are suggesting here? Or trying to be funny? That's part of this entire inequality case. Your responses sum case up perfectly - there is simply no place for that sort of gloating or envy. Just think if this was reversed and a male presenter discovered they were paid less than a female. Gammon Daily Mail readers would be outraged.

Because they know it is easy money.

She is on House of Games this week so if she does win a day I hope the Fondue Set is worth as much as the Smoking Jacket. Very Happy

I don’t know what you think I was suggesting. Just making the point that she would now be financially comfortable if she struggled to get work as a result of this case. I wasn’t suggesting she would struggle or even should struggle. I’m sure in his stint on Newswatch Ray Snoddy was being paid a lot less than Anne Robinson was getting paid in the 90s, I don’t believe anyone was outraged.

I don’t want to bring up old arguments anyway, yes I don’t believe Samira was discriminated against because of her gender, but that is the ruling and we have to live with that and fair play to her. It just means the worth of presenters is going to have be calculated differently in the future.

Well let's get this back to Presentation shall we. You may not like the ruling but it showed she WAS discriminated - subject to any appeal.

The ruling is way more complex than that, it basically said that the BBC's lawyers didn't give enough evidence to prove it wasn't gender discrimination as they failed to bring the bosses at the time of her hiring to the tribunal or the people who negotiated Vine's contracts over the years.
The case set no new legal principle. It would have been a much different outcome imo if those people were willing to give evidence instead of Lawyer waffle.
