I was watching both News 24 and Sky News yesterday with details of the killing of Benazir Bhutto. I switched on at 15.00 and they were both showing the Breaking News graphic. I then watched something else and otherthings until after 1800, when I returned to News 24 and they were still showing the BN graphic. I went out during the evening, and returned to Sky News at 23.30 and they were still showing the BN graphic. Why? How can a story that broke mid-afternoon still be classed as Breaking news at nearly midnight? Anyone?

There's a thread on the subject of her death.

I suppose the channels reckon that a large proportion of the audience are tuning in for the first time that day and it is still breaking news for them.

Remember those who watch news channels all day account for a very small proportion of the audience.

Because there was Breaking News on the massive story all day and evening. Simple as. Royal death, 9/11, Terrorist bombings..... Reaction, violence etc....... Simple really.
