48 hours before the RTS Journalism awards....

So which channel do the forum think deserves to be News Channel of the Year 2004...

Remember the award is decided on coverage pre-tsunami....
and recognises distinctiveness, on-air style, technology, etc etc...

I for one think Sky News still deserve it...

They are the leaders at trying out new technology and coming up with new ways of doing things... (just look how quickly the others follow).
Their coverage of Beslan was the best... When the BIG stories break they always do them the best (and I know some people will say they were slow to get to Boscastle... but just because their rivals have regional sat-trucks only means they get pictures first occasionally - and that in itself doesn't make a News Channel of the Year in my book.)

So votes please - we find out at about 10pm Thursday...

ITV news should win Most Improved if there was one, as its hardly recognizable from last Feb, although its shouldnt win because of that vile red ticker!

My guess is Sky News.

Hahahaha - have the BBC management phrases made their way into Isleworth, then?

No the 3 official nominees are Sky, BBC24, ITVNC...
but I asked who DESERVES it... so thought my vote ought to include all the possible candidates for forum members to choose from.

That's what I was going to say, it has improved about a million times since it started in 2002. It has gone from a channel that showed ITV News repeats all of the time, to a more serious News channel that takes advantage of it's Regions, something that the BBC doesn't do and something that Sky can't do.

They also have some good presenters to back the channel such as Andrew Harvey and Alastair Stewart, who IMO is fantastic, as he does more than read the News compared to the other presenters, he's also a great interviewer.

Though at times it does lack, for instance when they show the ITV News at 10:30 overnight does let it down, also relying on Showbiz at times does also let it down. But agreed it's the most improved, it also had less on screen junk and clutter compared to BBC News 24 and Sky News.

I find it hard to judge this year. They have all improved and changed over the last year that i cant decide. Usually it would only be between Sky & BBC, but ITV have improved so much i believe they are a real contender now. It will probably be Sky again though as they just seem to be slightly ahead of the rest.

BBC News 24 is the best. One of the many reasons is that they're are several well educated journalists and newsreaders on the channel who've attended top universities. Very Happy

Oh please. What is your fixation with so-called "top universities"?

And there are plenty of Oxbridge graduates at Sky and ITN.

You just see the amount of people who went to Exeter at the BBC these days. Just wait for a big story in the South West, and they all swamp home. Just mention URE and they all know what your talking about, well not all obviously!!
