The "not being white enough to be dead" argument is rubbish. He had dark skin. Do you think black people turn white when they die?

Bloody conspiracy theorists do my head in.

Unfortunately that was supposed to be a sarcastic joke that went wrong after the consumption of a bottle and a half of wine.... conspiracy theories also piss me off a great deal!!!

It is a bit gut-wrenching to see Saddam dropping into the trapdoor. (Mind you, I have no symphathies towards this madman whatsoever, but it is hard to see anyone dying).

How Saddam was executed was far nicer than what he reportedly had done to his opponents.... feeding them through plastic shredders, acid baths, or gouging their eyes out. And killing Kurds with toxic gas.

So I think you are right, not to have much sympathy for him!! Cool

PS: I have Saddam Hussein memorial t-shirts for sale. A bit tight around the neck, but they hang well Wink

Did anyone notice the News 24 ticker on saturday said he had been "beheaded" for quite a while before being changed to "executed"?

I've seen the video available on Google.

Perhaps as the "victorious" side in Gulf War II we shouldn't have allowed something like this to happen. The trial is one thing, an almost public execution is another. We didn't hand over the Nuremburg Trial defendants to the Germans for execution in 1945, so why did we feel it necessary to hand Saddam back to the Iraqis? I can only assume it was because the US knew what could be expected and have attempted to show that no blood was on their hands.

I have no sympathy for Saddam's plight insofar as his conviction, but as a fundamental oppenent of capital punishment, I would argue that even when such a punishment is carried out, an individual should be allowed to die with some degree of dignity when carried out in the name of the state.

The major news channels have (to an extent) respected that; but of course this footage is available to anyone with access to the internet. It is more perhaps a sad example of our collective state of mind as a presumed "intelligent species" that we not only commit such acts as allow others to view them, and I am no less a part of that by the inquisitive search for the video myself.

I've just seen that camara phone video. And I agree that even though he was one of the most evil men on earth (behind Bush Laughing ), I went cold seeing him drop just like that. I knew it was 90 degrees.

I'm speechless.
