Don't know whether it's worth reading too much into the pecking order at the BBC.
One would have thought Sophie would have stayed on to do it after the SIX. I mean it's what George normally does, and if we are to believe the rumours about her moving to the TEN, she could probably do with a test drive! hehe Or they could have asked Sissons or Buerk.
I wouldn't have thought Jordan would have been an obvious choice.

Sophie has a baby don't forget. So she can't do too much work

Yes, but she's done 13 hour shifts over the Xmas period. Surely a few hours more wouldn't be too much hassle.

To be honest, I don't think the BBC do have a 'pecking order'. Granted, they have a pool of presenters for each bulletin or channel to make it consistent, but they are by no means rigidly adhered to. I don't have any specific knowledge of why Darren Jordon was on the Ten O'clock News tonight, but I'd guess that it was a last minute decision, and he was available at the time. If they're left without a presenter at the last minute, I imagine the last thing they consider is the pecking order.

Darren Jordon has presented the weekday Ten a few times now. I personally think he very good, and the programme is a lot better with him.
I also met him at the BBC News and Sport on tour, in Edinburgh, very nice person.

I think I'd be inclined to disagree with you. I mean, they'd hardly put Maxine Mahwhinney on the TEN would they?

I feel so sorry for her...I think 12/13 hours shifts will be pretty standard for a news presenter these days....especially over a period of irregular bulletins. If news presenters work any less than this then they don't deserve their licence fee. Think of the correspondents across the world...especially those in Asia that are probably doing those hours and more to file reports.
