In the Summer of 2005 I was bored and watchin the beeb World News and I missed Daljit on ITN or CNN International.

I wrote a short letter to BBC World News and I asked them to hire her.

She began doing voiceovers there and then subbed for Katty Kay while she was preggers.

Today she appeared on BBC World News again as a co host.

Then she was hired back to host Wide Angle.

Yes, it was your letter that made the whole thing happen. Thanks a lot for being instrumental in bringing Daljit back to our screens.

Yes, it was quite a surprise to see her on BBC again.

She began on BBC as a reporter and then ITN World News.

When PBS in America began showing the BBC World News, it had better field reporting.

I think ITN used Reuters.

So, they cancelled ITN and Daljit went over to CNN International and that went belly up.

Some say she looks like Audrey Hepburn.

Sadly, I was never able to get Jay Leno to host Swing Out Sister. Mad

I started this Wiki article.

I don't think so.

Daljit was also an anchor at BBC World (think after it stopped being BBC World Service TV) prior to moving to ITN to anchor The ITN World News - which was taken by some PBS stations in the US.

BBC World then struck a deal with WLIW in NY to distribute BBC World bulletins to other PBS stations - so you had some PBS stations showing BBC and others ITN World bulletins. Eventually, AIUI, stations began to switch to the BBC version - as it had more global reporting (ITNs was basically running of the back of ITV and C4 News - with less global location reporting - whereas BBC World was running an international network with a more global outlook, and with more reporters across the globe) - eventually ITN pulled the plug on the World bulletin. (Think Daljit popped up on C4 News and the ITN News Channel as well)

She then moved to the US - to work at a US local station I think - then moved to CNN?

WNET Channel 13 in Newark New Jersey/ NYC and WLIW Garden City Long Island New York are both owned by the same company.

Daljit has been working on and off part time for BBC World News in America. for almost one year now.

Her day job now is for Wide Angle which is made by the same company that owns WNET and WLIW.

She is better off doing important interviews with people and celebs.

The BBC hiring her solved a bunch of problems.

The newsanchors needed Xmas holidys off.

They needed to hire a minority and a woman and she does perfect reports.

I believe her real maiden surname might be Singh like most people, who have ancestry in Punjab India.

A funny thing has happened. Dajit lost her job to BBC World News with Mishal Husain and then took over her job at Wide Angle. Now Daljit has taken back both of Mishal's old jobs! Laughing

Yep - this is the case now - but in the days when ITN World News and BBC World News were both on-air, WNET carried ITN and WLIW carried the BBC.

AIUI they merged operations and moved in together in the New York APTN building (also home to the New York Daily News?) when they had to upgrade their respective transmission facilities for digital and it made sense to co-site operations.

WNET shows BBC World Bullitens at 6pm . It shows them at 12am on WNET's digital channel, thirteen world. WLIW shows them at 6am, 7pm, and 11pm, and in breaking news events, such as the london bombings, they simulcast World for the whole day. WLIW also shows RTE News on SUndays. WNET houses BBC World's NYC set.

Here are examples pf WNET Branding:

Rythem and Movement anyone?

Here are some examples of WLIW branding:

They've updated the titles to the current ones.

The WLIW idents pretty much focus on aereal views of NYC, and pan around various loations. Above is one of Carnagie Hall.

Garden City is located just east of NYC.

I am up in The Bronx.

Both are PBS or CPB and run on mostly taxpayer funding.

Congress keeps it like this to put on programming that the for profit networks will not show.

CBS NBC and ABC will not show classical music or opera or sesame street or science stuff.

I have been listening to the BBC since the mid 1960's with my old Sony shortwave radio.
