The Daily (& Sunday) Politics

She has been back around a year now...she didn't do any of the Election prog's...she was off by then, but had def returned for the Autumn conference season.

I agree, it's the best daytime tv show out there...however, I really do hope they get a new set when they return...that bad boy has been around since Andrew Neil was a lad...titles are still rather lovely though!

I do like Jo Coburn, she worked well with Andrew during the Election last year, wonder if she'll continue on Fridays, or if they'll get another presenter in? Sheilagh Fogharty did well in her brief stint last year, but think her new 5Live show may clash? I remember Sally Magnusson did Friday editions for a while a few years back...

Andrew does seem to have a reputation of getting along swimmingly with younger female colleagues. Perhaps this lady would be a candidate for the job?

Even if she does do only 4 days a week, they could keep her on Friday. When she was covering for Anita last year she had Thursdays off. And as the BBC obviously rate her as a political presenter (see her Politics Show filling in), might make sense for her to retain Fridays as the co-presenter is very much in Andrew's shadow Mon-Thu

When the DP 'properly returns' in September, Jo Coburn will do Tue-Fri. No mention of a co-presenter Monday on this link, so could be Andrew solo?

I'd expected 11.30-12.30 to still make room for GMT, which unless the BBC World News schedule changes will no longer be on BBC2 (which would be a shame IMO)

BBC One - Sunday Politics
From 15 January 2012 The Politics Show will be replaced by a new programme, The Sunday Politics. It will be presented by Andrew Neil and broadcast live from Television Centre (White City), moving to Broadcasting House (Portland Place) in September 2012. The new programme will feature the latest political news, a long form political interview, debate and analysis.

The programme will provide local political news through its 3 national (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and 11 regional segments, with a new consistent format. The regional segment will continue to be pre-recorded on Friday afternoons, although occasionally it will be live when required. The regional Sunday Politics teams will be inviting two Members of Parliament or other political figures, from each region, to be the 'guests of the day', for the whole 20 minute regional segment. The team can currently be reached at politicsshow@bbc.co.uk with a new email address being alerted in due course.

BBC Two - Daily Politics
From 9 January 2012, The Daily Politics will go from 30 to 60 minutes (12:00-13:00) every day apart from Wednesdays which will remain at 90 minutes (11:30-13:00). Jo Coburn will present the programme on Mondays and Tuesdays; Andrew Neil and Jo will present together on Wednesdays and Thursdays; and Andrew will present on Fridays. There will be a new 'Yesterday in Parliament' item with highlights from the Commons followed by a studio discussion with MPs. The programme will continue to be broadcast from the BBC Millbank studios.

So, how exactly is this a cost-cutting exercise? To me it simply sounds like rebranding - I can't see any difference to the programme compared to the current Politics Show.

And RE: GMT. GMT is still on BBC World News at 1pm isn't it? I suppose they could technically show it then but that would have the strange situation of a news programme on simultaneously on BBC One and BBC Two. By the sounds of it, I think GMT will be falling off BBC Two (which is odd considering the cost-cutting).

I believe the original plan was to have the Daily Politics run from 11.30 to 12.30 and have GMT still following it at 12.30.

Not sure why (or when) that changed, as noted above it was a great way to have fresh content on BBC Two with little expenditure. Perhaps another BBC World programme could slot in at 11.00 or even 13.30?
