The Sky commentary is really insightful, "there are blue flashing lights at the scene".

Well I'm tired now, shame BBC didn't any live pictures from the scene. I think I'll head off and watch the full story of it tomorrow, wish I could keep up till 2am.

But all you can see are blue flashing lights and a few emergency workers doing something unidentifiable!

I am just guessing but I would imagine that Sky have just bought in the truck from the nearest facilities company.

So why can't the BBC do that!?

not enought cameramen

They could have a whole busload of cameramen there for all we know, but without a satellite truck there will be no pictures on N24.

My techy knowledge is always secondary to my journalism knowledge - so apologies for that. I am however amazed at BBC Resources not delivering the goods 4 hours after such an incident on home soil considering how much dosh goes to dear old auntie. The ad with covering Beirut, Cairo etc is very impressive - but their local coverage isn't something to bragg about.

My days as a journo in the Scottish Highlands were a nightmare for accessibility - but my boss would have given me a bollocking for not getting the first pics or audio - even if it was up Ben Nevis. Lets face it ITV and Sky have managed it, BBC editors will not be satisfied at this.

Journalistically - the Gillian v Tim battle - well Tim is obviously better!!

Sky News seem to be repeating there interviews with Ambulance workers etc. Still they have the small advantage of live pictures.

You can have live pictures but if you haven't got anyone at the scene you end up with newsreaders in the studio coming out with stupid comments and saying what they are told through their earpieces and the autocue.

BBC now have live pictures.

That is true - that is why reporters go off an gather news. This does not mean that live pictures cannot be shot as well. I still do not think that BBC editors will be happy at not having pics before now!

We've live pics on N24 - yipee!!

I should also say that many news presenters start their career as reporters and are well aware of how to handle a breaking story etc. Many reporters also become editors and directors etc as well - advising anchors live on air. It aint going to be glamourous in the gallery and studio either.

I would imagine Sky News will get the SkyCopter out before sunrise.
