Indeed. A live phono with a correspondent in the middle of a firefight. Utterly compelling television.

Dramatic stuff with Julian Manyon at the moment.

Maybe I was a bit hasty earlier with my moan at ITV's coverage. This Julian Manyon material is as good, if not better than SKY's Rachel. Its just a shame that it's taken them so long to get this material!

The pictures from Julian Mannion sound like they'll be pretty amazing once they can get them back to London.

Have to say, having listened to them both in full, that I would disagree.
Rachel Amatt was in there almost an hour and a half ahead of Julian Manyon, when the situation was at its height - school on fire, people breaking into the gym, firefight, explosion, hostage-taker being killed in front of her... Manyon got there when the area sounded reasonably secured because he was talking about all of the other people around him.
Also doesn't help that Julian Manyon is a pompous arse who gives himself a heart attack at the first sign of excitement - witness his coverage of Iraq.

No, the actual tape won't get sent back. They'll probably be sent via a local inject point, or there may well be some sort of pool agreement between broadcasters for an on the scene or local uplink.

BBC1 carrying Neighbours?! I never thought I'd see the day where the only terrestrial coverage of a major world story is on ITV. Granted News 24 is still rolling (and presumably simulcasting with World), but even so.....
