My question there would be what would happen when it ended if the Six was in mid flow? They certainly wouldn't have had a presenter in a studio to pick up off the back of it and just crashing into the Six would've looked pretty clumsy.

So what ? We are huge trouble, who cares ?

Oh I know first hand. Working in the care sector outside of my media work I've seen it for myself. In fact unlike some people I've seen it from both a media and a front line perspective.

I was just trying to come at the coverage from both angles.

It's refreshing to see people who actually work in the media call out the armchair critics who know little or nothing about how these things work.

Yes, no reason not to let it overrun other than two reasons IMO:

- they had sight of the questions coming up and decided they weren't covering anything that would add anything to the story of the day

- that due to staffing issues in the regions although delaying the Six and One Show might be fine, it could cause problems with the regional news.

Understandable at the moment why it would have to be either on both One and the News Channel or neither. Personally I think having shown them all on BBC1 so far they should have stuck with it if they could, but I also think there is a bit of news conference fatigue, not just from viewers but figures in the industry are questioning them too, and I suspect they'll be bumped to BBC2 in the not too distant future. Heck as the difficult questions are now beginning to be asked of the government they'll probably be dumped all together sooner or later.

It seems that BBC One isn't showing the daily briefings from tomorrow onwards. I agree that probably they'll either shift them to BBC Two or News Channel or the Government will limit them to weekly

I struggle to find where the BBC has stated it is stop broadcasting them on BBC1?

2 weeks ago you were complaining BBC1 was becoming wall to wall news now you're complaining they're cutting away from the news.

I don't think I was complianing it was wall to wall news, I think I said it should offer restbite from the news. Perhaps you'd be kind enough to produce a link to the post(s), you refer to?

If you bother to read properly my comments this evening, my compliant is the conference didn't remain on the NC at the very least

Next week, with no 5 News Tonight and the Australian soaps cut back, 5 News at 5 is extended to 40 minutes Tue/Wed/Thu. Mon+Fri it's 30 minutes so Neighbours remains at 1730, and then showbiz filler Access for 10 minutes at 1800. The schedule would look so much better with a 10 minute news bulletin at 1800 instead. I presume it would be fairly easy to do as reports would have been prepared for 5 News at 5 and it would 'only' mean coming off air 40 minutes later. It wouldn't rate, but I doubt Access will either.

Yes, considering the conference is taking place as they air an update slightly later would make sense.

Are the evening news updates still airing - think they only do one or two now (8pm and 9pm IIRC). If they're still airing having a 6pm and 7pm update rather than Access makes more sense.

Does anyone know what the audience ratings are for BBC News right now?

Massive!

In fact it's the regional bulletins at 6.30 which have been pulling in the biggest audiences, the combined audience around eight million most nights. The Six O'Clock News hasn't been far behind, around 6-7 million pretty much every night, which makes it I think has made it the most watched programme of any kind every weeknight for the last two weeks or so.

They’ve been getting strong audiences with the daily press conference that has then lead straight into the Six, then the regional news and then The One Show. The latter has been doing really well, whereas earlier in the year the ratings showed signs of flagging a bit.

It’s quite interesting what shows have been boosted in recent weeks, it tends to be light factual and entertainment that is easy to drop into half way though the series, whereas soaps have only seen small uplifts and heavy dramas not much at all.

BARB currently has 7-data from 16-22 March, obviously Saturday Night Takeaway takes No 1 spot, but BBC News at 6 takes the next 5 spots from 7.2 to 8.7 million viewers.

If people try joining them at 23:45 they will have missed the programme. Shocked

Indeed, and while there was obvious disappointment that Uncle Matt couldn't come into the studio for his last show, because there was no Emmerdale it got its biggest audience for months.
