ITV News now using desk mics for reporters/guests, but not for the presenter. How very retro.

Is that James Mates? Shouldn't he be in isolation considering he's been reporting from Italy certainly up until last week.

One thing I don’t understand is that all the local CBC stations receive their own microwave signals, CNG and downlink satellites. The only thing the CBC Toronto Broadcasting Centre is used for is master control, encoding the stream to transmitters / headends and inserting ads. Normally it shouldn’t be a problem unless there operators cannot handle daily unscheduled program changes.

I have absolutely no knowledge about broadcasting, but it's possible the level of integration at the CBC is much greater than one would expect according to this blog.

Quote:

This wouldn’t be an issue if CBC hadn’t centralized so much of its technical operations. If local stations truly controlled their own broadcasts, they wouldn’t need Toronto. Under normal circumstances, centralization saves money and staff and works well enough. But when a crisis happens, this system has a huge vulnerability.

CTV, Global and Citytv have also centralized production to varying degrees, but none of them have made moves anywhere near as drastic..

CBC starts re-integration
Whatever the CBC needed to do to bring local news back, it looks like they’re ready to start. On March 24, six days after the sudden suspension, it announced what appeared to be a timeline: Starting March 25, CBC News Network will offer “expanded” 30-minute local news segments. And “over the course of this week and next, we will make every effort to have all of the dedicated local shows back up on the main network.”

Maybe he’s had a test?

Possible and sensible - don't begrudge a private test in that situation.

Anyway, don't want to fall into the trap of speculating on peoples health or grassing up people leaving the house.

He has already been in isolation apparently - Julie mentioned it briefly during the studio interview on last night's Ten.

Second night of that format. Stig Abel and Ella Whelan were in their homes on Monday night.

The BBC are really squeezing as much as they can out of this. A solid twenty minutes on it so far. They're read the statement about seven times, and have had two royal correspondents on the line saying the same things over and over and over.

It needs reporting but this is ridiculous.

Edit: I thought we'd get a reprieve at the TOTH but no, it's the one headline and straight back to Nicholas Witchell.

As mentioned in the presentation thread - he is the first in line to the throne, the coverage is justified.
