Interesting article about some Downing Street comms plans in the FT... with a proposal for daily lobby briefings to be televised, akin to the White House press briefings.

I hope this doesn’t dilute the coverage any further. Whilst having the potential to allow a greater frequency of questioning, there is also an inevitable fatigue that sets-in when a broadcast comes around with such regularity.

Oddly enough, people could take less notice of it when it becomes a daily fixture.

Timing is also important. Officials will thrive on dropping a last minute piece of news whilst not allowing the broadcasters sufficient time to get their ducks in a row, and we could see some mediocre questioning as has occurred of late.

By the time the next briefing comes along 24 hours later, everything will have moved on..... (24 hours is a long time in politics, or whatever the saying is.....)

If of genuine value to all of us, a fixed briefing and press conference twice a week would be better IMO. Tuesdays and Fridays. Allows time for proper research into a subject and more strategic line of questioning.

Lobby Correspondents will probably disagree with me. Lol.

Looks like we're being treated to another episode this afternoon, at least according to the iPlayer. Presumably covering the finally announced quarantine-free list of countries, and this weekend's change of restrictions in England.

I appreciate that people are entitled to their opinions, but the NC broadcast a 'G5 Conspiracy Theory' programme at 17:30 today which was comedy gold.

I recommend it as essential viewing. You don't need be drunk, 'socially distanced in a pub with your mates', or sat at home with a can of Special Brew to find it hilarious.

It's well made, but perhaps better on BBC Three. I couldn't really determine in the end whether or not the reporter was mocking the interviewees.

I don't get why they'd even be giving it any airtime, even if it is to mock the ludicrous nature of it all.
