US Congresswoman Shot

'right-left right-left' blah blah blah.... that's the big problem with American political discourse.

You assume I was making a political point, the fact is that that website had that on it until a few hours ago, Even if it's not connected to the events of today it's very unfortunate for Sarah Palin, who is a potential presidential candidate.

Being mentioned by the BBC's Washington correspondent (who's name I really should know) now. Very sad news, but in many ways isn't too dissimilar to the Labour MP Stephen Timms being stabbed at a constituency meeting earlier in the year. Clearly his injuries weren't as serious as Congresswoman Gifford's, but it could have been.

Condolences to the families of the deceased and here's hoping the Congresswoman makes a full recovery.

Yes, it did remind me of that too, although the context of the 2 attacks is very different (and the attack on her isn't an isolated one)

It will be interesting to see what is revealed about the suspect over the days and weeks. Certainly judging by his YouTube videos* and other bits of web presence he had certain issues, but his motives will take a bit longer to be revealed. How much the rhetoric given out by certain media outlets and politicians had to do with it remains to be seen.

It will certainly be interesting to see if he's labelled a 'terrorist'
