I think we're in damned if we do and damned if we don't territory. Rush off air at 9:05 say to get to The Apprentice moments after the announcement and it has a knock-on effect to two channel schedules, or get off air to get The Apprentice on at 9pm but miss the result (which was the whole point of doing this) but keep the schedules intact. Going to be messy whatever happens.
Ideally they would postpone the Apprentice to tomorrow, stay on air until 9:30 with a repeat of Mrs Brown filling until the news can start on time at 10.
By rushing off air at 9:05 they end up compromising both the special and the Ten.
BBC Parliament is running a ticker pointing viewers to BBC One for coverage of the Theresa May vote. Surely signposting to the News channel would have been better?

Would probably be the sensible option although preferably something other than the absolute rubbish that is Mrs brown could air at 21:30. Move live at the apollo from tomorrow to fill the 10 slot on 2 and free up tomorrow's at the same time. Scotland can play there documentary on Friday or sometime next week.
That was my other thought, quickly edit The Apprentice down to 55 or 50 minutes.
It's an indie production, so not like they can just fire up an edit suite and do a cutdown - it would have to be something they'd have had to consider in advance; and also need some lines to TX - something not all post houses have.
Even if it was an in house production they wouldn't be editing a cut down this late on.
They aren't just cobbled together, they're very carefully and tightly produced... they won't just hack off 15 minutes of it just like that

It also shows very little respect to anyone who actually would like to watch the full edit. The fact that the why I fired them has been scheduled for 21:00 suggests to me that the slot has been left open for something to be moved into as I'm pretty sure that usually goes out after the news.
