Hey, that was an excellent link, Rob. Many thanks. In fact, don't you think the CNN London studio from 2001 (the Queen's visit as shown) is much better than the current James T. Kirk-esqu set?

Just seen cnn.com on the flipper, looks good actually although it needs to be moved more to the right.

Dear OTP,

I am originally from Glasgow but am now resident in the Middle East (Dubai), and have lived outside of the UK for almost 20 years. I have been fortunate enough to have worked all over the world and my current role takes me globally to major construction projects, with construction being my main line of business, hence the periodic spells away from the tv!

I became a self-confessed news junkie in the early nineties when I ended up on a hardship posting in the middle of the North African desert for more than two years on an oil project, where we did not have telephones, faxes or computers. Often, not even electricity.

When we did have electricity, the only foreign television we could capture on a heavily censored satellite system, was BBC World News, hence my fascination with all things of that nature.

When you've been force-fed BBC (World) News for more than two years without a break, it's easy to become hooked and obsessively troubled by the goings-on in a television newsroom! LOL.

Regards,
James

On the Zabalo link Rob provided there is a video of World News from Washington, how often did they do this and when did they stop it? If anybody knows the answer I'd be really interested.

Am I right in beleiving that Bettina Luescher also did some work from Atlanta aswell as working in Berlin? I seem to vaguely remember her presenting World News from about this era.

World News from Washington began in 1993 (or possibly late 1992) and was originally hosted by Reid Collins. It was similar in format to regular editions of World News, except that it usually featured an extended live interview with some Washington-based politician, analyst, ambassador, etc. IIRC, there were two edition of World News from Washington each weekday -- both on the half hour, rather than on the hour like other editions of World News.

The newscast was always referred to as "World News from Washington" by the anchor, but the titles and graphics were just regular World News titles. In the late 1990s, Sonia Ruseler, who had previously been based in Atlanta, took over from Collins.

I believe they eventually stopped it (in 2001 or thereabouts) to cut costs. When World News from Washington was canceled, Sonia Ruseler left the network.

Yes, Bettina Luescher was based at the CNN Center from the time she joined CNNI in 1992 until she moved to Berlin in the late 1990s.

In fact, there were a few clips on YouTube of her anchoring World News back in 1994, but they were just taken down this week.
