As for that Saturday night news, CNN/US had a 90 minute special at 10pmET, so I think CNN Newsroom was used 'to fill the gap' after that. Things like this have happened before, but usually overnight. There has been at least one occasion where CNN/US have run a 'CNN Film' that wasn't quite two hours, so they've started the usual simulcast at 3.45amET-ish, with CNNI amending their schedule to suit.

Must be the first time CNNI has produced planned live content in the slot for a while, but it's happened on an 'unplanned' basis. For example there was a mass shooting late at a weekend last year so Natalie Allen did a breaking news simulcast at 11pmET since CNN/US would have already finished for the night

Anna Coren is great, and was good to see the HK studio in use.

Pleased to see Anna getting a lot of praise - back when she did have a regular slot I’m not sure I remember her being as popular but then she did succeed the excellent Anjali Rao and any presenter would pale in comparison to Anjali.
Seems like Hong Kong is still used to fill in for other locations every so often. Has Kristie presented much since the end of Newstream?

Kristie has covered for Max and Rosie's last half hour (on the 'normal' schedule) a bit, including Christmas

Anna is an ok presenter and a very good reporter. True she wasn't very popular when she had a regular slot, at least on CNNfan forum.

I don't watch CNN US coronavirus coverage which is boring, repetitive and as usual Trump focused. Really hope CNNI increases its own hours soon.

Excellent report I caught just now by David Culver returning to Wuhan (after previously being there around when it went into lockdown originally). He’s been a great hire by CNN - a fantastic reporter and makes the stories he covers easy to follow and interesting to hear about

Great to see Brooke Baldwin back on air today. She spent the first 5 mins on her own experience and gratitude etc... Every guest spent a few moments expressing love, joy, and everything else that must come with the relief someone has succumb, fought with and won the battle with CV19.

Kate Bouldan has taken the 3-4 slot, giving Brianna Keilar a break, but still, seems ridiculous to have Kate in for one hour.

It's hard not to commend Cooper, Blitzer, King and Keilar for staying on air for 6 weeks without so much of a break. Blitzer has not had a day off since this started, quite remarkable.

Have to say too that while I think Anna Coren is great on CNNI I can't help but think of this video whenever she's mentioned.



Though much of the issue seems to be with the incredibly tacky nature of that 'news show' which any news presenter would struggle with. And as I say Anna is great on CNNI these days and her 'Today Tonight' days are now long forgotten but that video does make me chuckle. She must cringe looking back at those days.

I think that since they stopped daily programmes from Hong Kong they have just used a flash set, right? O are they still on the tiny studio that they moved on january 2018?

A flash set is used in Hong Kong for any shows coming from there, but I'm sure I've seen the studio in reports occasionally

Ah yes, Anjali Rao's morning hour about 10ish years ago now - that hour had the perfect mix of morning friendly chemistry and essential world news, sport, business and weather, something I don't think has been as well recreated in that slot's various incarnations since. Anna Coren then followed with the next hour with almost the same format but the chemistry wasn't quite there. I remember almost every business/sport/segment presenter who would come on for their piece would begin with a few affectionate words or an anecdote for Anjali. It's a shame that as each CNN HK show/presenter left there was never really a decent 'goodbye' to their audiences (bar KLS), they all just disappeared one day.

Anjali and Jenny Harrison always had so much fun together plus Mark McKay on sport. Those were the days....

One of the worst decisions CNNI made in the last decade was getting rid of most of its weather presenters and just having a few live hits in the European mornings. They had the best weather people and they were such an integral part of every news bulletin, always providing us with fun, memorable moments. Jenny, Femi, Guillermo, Mari were all such household names for CNNI viewers and are all gone now.
