Doesn't seem that long since they moved into their HQ in Great Marlborough Street. I'm fairly sure that the building was originally meant to be a new HQ for Carlton but they never moved in as the company merged with Granada before it was finished. They even mentioned the start of the construction work in London Tonight, with Alistair Stewart laying the first stone

I wonder if CNN and Time Warner in its current guise will still exist when they come to move into the new building

London London
I wonder if this fits in with TimeWarner strategy of getting CNNI out of CNN Center before its sold off completely and then they supposedly moving the entire operation out of Atlanta and relocating large part of the channel London. This will be interesting to watch. Nice find ginnyfan.

Well if they are looking to sell CNN Center then why are they remodeling the building? HLN just got a huge new space on the 7th floor and one of thier newsroom producers was hinting at a possible newsroom set for future coverage. So unless some deal would be worked out for them to stay? I read somewhere that they start the remodel on their atrium and main entrance this summer.

The remodel has always been on the cards and was written about in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution back in 2016. The Turner owner 50% stake in the Omni Hotel component of CNN Center was already sold and the atrium and entrance updates were already planned as part of CNN Center redevelopement. No one said CNN Center was closing next week. Not seen anything about a new space (good for them if true) or a new newsroom set. For all we know this could be at Techwood. Keep watching. Or for all we know Time Warner might be significantly reducing the space currenly being used at the building. Consolidating floors and space as they fire/retire people. There is no where near as many studio productions coming from the building, even on HLN. And CNNi has loads of CNN Domestic Simulcast, the presenters are probably peeved.

Quote:
Atlanta-based Turner Broadcasting plans substantial renovations at its landmark downtown CNN Center as well as to the Techwood complex in Midtown as the media company continues a broader overhaul of its businesses.
Officials at the parent of cable networks CNN, TBS and TNT, stressed its planning is just beginning, but told employees Friday the company is “evaluating” upgrades to the office space and atrium mall at CNN Center, one of Atlanta’s top tourist destinations and a familiar entryway for Hawks fans into Philips Arena. The plans in Midtown — called “Reimagine Techwood” — could involve expanding buildings there.

Quote:

The scope of potential changes to CNN Center isn’t immediately known, but Desroches said “we are evaluating how to best improve function adjacencies, modernize our office space, and upgrade the retail atrium.”

Turner also announced Friday plans to sell its 50 percent stake in the Omni hotel attached to CNN Center. That could come at an opportune time as the city’s hotel and convention industry is booming.

Turner CEO John Martin on the company's commitment to Atlanta.
Quote:

“I’m a big fan of CNN Center,” he said, then added, “I love Taco Bell there. I’d be good if I could run to the border three times a week.”

So apparently CNN Headline News name is making a return to the airwaves on the channel currently known as HLN. But dont get too excited. Apparently CNN is reaching back into its heritage to revive the Headline News name for 90 second news updates (Headlines Now) at the top and bottom of the hour from 11-5pm ET. Its used as bumpers and the logo alternates between HLN and HEADLINE NEWS. Miss the days of this.....
AROUND THE WORLD IN 30 MINS THIS IS CNN HEADLINE NEWS!

Amazingly made tens of thousands of nonstop rolling news broadcasts. Never stopping for breaking news only to tell something has happened. But they kept moving and rolling. Non stop for decades. Huge loss in these days of insular, talking head tv, in the US.

Gotta love that inspirational theme

Interesting post.

It would be nice if they changed the slightly ambiguously named "CNN News Now" updates on CNN International to something like Headline News (or go back to World Headlines), it would make it more obvious to the occasional viewer. Also, I dislike the gimmicky 3... 2... 1... intro that "News Now" uses.

Here is the new HLN Newsroom that the channel moved to at the beginning of the year at CNN Center. Apparently its on the same floor at the studio that was previously that main studio for CNN. So they consolidated the channels operations onto one floor.

CNN Today has officially take over Studio7 at CNN Center. Looks good for the flagship Asia focused newscast programme. Always thought that Michael Holmes and Amara Walker are probably the best international team on tv. They are smart and work well together and aren't simply plastic autocue readers.

Apparently they will use it when HLN isnt. Such a waste for HLN to use this expansive studio and CNNi is confined to their little tiny studio. Good move.
