The WordArt squeeze is in full effect on the lower thirds tonight:

There's so much spare white space; I really don't understand why they don't go for two-line text, especially when they're trying to fit so much into the box. I find it hard to read when it's all squashed up like that.

I mocked up very quickly how the same text would look over two lines. While I'm biased, I think it looks much better and is much easier to read than when squashed on one line.

To be fair, they don't usually try to fit so much in - as per the Connect the World clip posted above, but it would make sense to have a character limit or feature that puts it onto two lines when a certain amount of text is input.

Also, it should be noted that BBC has the same issue as well.

Well, why don't they use Gotham Condensed, then?

They don't condense it in just one direction any more - the character size is just reduced.

New look Connect the World and Abu Dhabi set.

Wow. That is impressively underwhelming. A pretty bland looking set in particular.

Does Becky Anderson have complete editorial control over 'Connect the World'?

I only ask because according to her CNN profile page she is 'Managing Editor, CNN Abu Dhabi'.

If so do other Anchors have editorial control of their programmes?

Typically the anchors/presenters exercise a bit more control over their programmes. Especially if those programmes have the name of the presenter in the title. And since Becky is the Managing Editor is likely CNN gives her greater control over that program. Unlike the straightforward CNN NEWSROOM or CNN TODAY programmes with are basically newscasts. Also the US Network newscasts the presenters, Scott Pelly, Lester Holt, David Muir have always had a larger voice in the direction and tone of their broadcasts. Thank goodness for Scott Pelley and the direction CBS Evening News has gone.

CNN IBN (Indian's CNN affiliate) has been rebranded to CNN News 18. Still try to determine if they clean-up their headache inducing on screen graphics. Never seen anything like it. Messy and wild.
CNN was about to drop their affiliation. Most of the new CNN Affiliates are simply named. CNN TURK/CNN PHILIPPINES/ CNN INDONESIA/ CNN CHILE. Amongst other things I wonder if CNN was playing hardball over the title. Hmmmm. Is this the best compromise?
Here is the relaunch page.
