CNN just launched its production centre in Dubai for CNN Arabic. (not sure why since they have a facility in Abu Dhabi.... just update the Abu Dhabi studio....odd) It features something called GLOBAL CONTROL. Which allows any CNN Control in the world to remotely operate the studio. So I would imagine CNN HK probably would have something similar since it was/is a major production center for CNN. (they still produce NEWSSTREAM from HK.

From CNN Commentary::
Quote:
CNN launched a new, hi-tech studio in Dubai to celebrate the 14th anniversary of its sister network, CNN Arabic.

CNN’s new studio provides the network with a new facility to tap into the growing range of stories emanating from Dubai. CNN will also offer an array of new video capabilities to CNNArabic.com, which has seen strong audience engagement around its increasingly video-led story-telling.

The facility also features a system called Global Control, which allows any CNN control room, anywhere in the world, to take command of the studio and operate it remotely.

Nice, cannot wait to see it.

CNN Arabic's offices have been in Dubai since before CNN Abu Dhabi opened. It seems like CNN Arabic need production facilities as online video becomes increasingly important (for anyone unaware, CNN Arabic is the Arabic version of cnn.com)

The remote camera at CNN Hong Kong overlooking Victoria Harbour... Can Atlanta control the camera?

I want to say it's possible. I remember reading an article (either on TVNewsCheck or TV Technology) which said that the production crew can control the robotic studio cameras from Atlanta that are located else where.

Thanks. It's a tidy system they seem to have. I saw an image of Andrew Stevens presenting a newsroom edition from Hong Kong, with the control room in the background without anyone seemingly in it, so maybe they can control everything including autocue from Atlanta and the local studio's display screens. Maybe.

I imagine most of the key sites and bureaus have high bandwidth fiber connections that make it all possible.

No reason why they couldn't if the camera is on a remote pan/tilt/zoom head. The BBC used to use ISDN and 300 baud modem data control for their remote down-the-line cameras in the 80s. The data required and the integration is a long-standing standard requirement in remote camera control set-ups. Whether it has been implemented (these days I'm sure an IP link instead of ISDN or PSTN modem) is up to whoever installed the set-up.

Some CNN news. Including CNNi staff having to reapply for jobs and the prospect of more moves from CNN Center to New York.

Huh, that's interesting. I wondered why a bunch of CNNI jobs cropped up on their jobs page last week.

It probably does make sense from a newsgathering standopint to be in a place where major news happens rather than a second tier city with only a major airport going for it, though they would be leaving behind so much history in Atlanta. It also sucks for people who might be losing their jobs or face having to uproot their families.

I really disagree that CNN needs to operate outta NYC or DC. They operated and still functions fine outta CNN Center. Problem is mgmt/ star anchors dont want to be in Atlanta. Ted Turner was right. The News should be the star. Zucker and Co and the million dollar anchors would never want to operate out of Atlanta. Though for decades CNNs regular daily output from CNN Center was far better than the grinding mess that comes of the NY shoebox today. There were far more international stories and was broader in scope than the narrow focus we see today. 3-4 stories ground in a fine powder and politics ad nauseum. They now fall into the same vein as the network newsrooms and the other cable channels in NYC. Opertating outta Atlanta was a plus for the viewer in my opinion not a minus. Gimme Bobbie Battisa's googly eyes any day over screechy harpy clones you see on all the channels now. And CNN HLN's dearly parted Don Harrison's deep tones and inflections any time.

What in the world?

The tweeter said he was watching on a live stream while based in the UK. Wonder where he got the stream from? Must be some weird carriage deal to allow that (assuming this is real). It was posted on Wednesday 17 of January with a time of 18:02 (I assume that it's my time ET) - so they would be still "live". At 6PM they air All Due Respect from Bloomberg but they've broken into the program in the past.

The shows Twitter account shows she's on at 10PM GMT so 5PM ET so it still doesn't make sense.

That was CNN International on the MSNBC International feed. I guess when MSNBC Domestic isn't doing rolling news, they join CNNi.

(My earlier reply was that there wasn't an MSNBC International that I knew of. I retract that reply.)
