But it was Errol who anchored Prism yesterday, albeit from Atlanta. And he did the whole week last week from Abu Dhabi, which made his appearance 48 hours later in Atlanta quite a jet lagging experience.

Hope youre right though. Would be nice to have Fionualla in Abu.

Actually Errol did the show from Atlanta last week too. Wink

He's been there for some time now, I hope he stays but am not hopeful. He also filled in on Brief for Jim today. Rolling Eyes At the same time experienced pros like Fiounnalla and Colleen McEdwards are slotless and nowhere to be seen.

CNN has really totally lost the plot.

Really? I didn't realise that. I was sure he was in Abu. Anyway, as you say, hope it doesn't mean the closure of Abu Dhabi.

Jim Clancy has just announced that The Brief is moving, to make way for an extended new version of Prism* from Abu Dhabi, as well as extending the iDesk with Hala and Michael from Atlanta. In fact, I think The Brief is being axed!

Not sure what the new extended coverage from Abu Dhabi will entail (I only hope it involves Fionualla Sweeney). Also, for those worried about Jim's continuation at CNN, he tells us "not to worry. He has been around as a correspondent** for a very long time before becoming an anchor, and he isn't going anywhere!!)

Once again: all change at CNNI.

The Brief, whilst described by Jim himself as an awesome broadcast idea, was - in fact - a bit of a misfit in the CNN line up. Come to think of it: so are many other "flagships" as well. They need to simplify the whole confusing branding issues. Too many exist at present.

*The new programme from Abu Dhabi won't be called Prism. It will be a new name, still to be revealed.
** Rumor has it that Jim Clancy is leaving the studio and returning to a roving Correspondent role.

Just seen Jim's Tweets and I'm a bit shocked. Not sure what this means for his role on CNN but it seems like he's not part of any future changes/extensions/new shows which is really sad. If Errol is part of it I will really be pissed off.
Judging by his Tweet seems like he'll become another fill in presenter like Finn. Really sad to see all the veterans being demoted to these roles.

But I'm not gonna make final conclusion before we get more details. Extending IDesk, if it's Hala's hour, is an improvement. Also Abu Dhabi needs a new set and a new anchor so they can improve there too.

EDIT: Hala Tweeted me that her IDesk is back to 60 minutes from next week. Great news!

CNN World Report is airing from Hong Kong today, rather than Atlanta. Am I right in saying that Saturday and Sunday live programmes normally come from Atlanta? (Except, of course, the Sunday edition of Prism, which is from AD usually.)

Pauline Chou is the anchor today. Maybe it's just because of the Thai floods or QANTAS story, which have an Asian bent???

Thai Floods coverage. They've added two extra editions of World Report

Sometimes CNNI are appalling with big news at the weekend. Other times they will put the effort in, often using London and/or Hong Kong to help out, and actually be a news channel for the weekend. Looks like this weekend they want to be a news channel. Enjoy it while it lasts

I say, old chap. I detect a bit of frustration in your post, about the current aimlessness of CNN International. I fully share your anxiety: CNN International has "lost it's way", as many would say. I don't know where and when to tune-in any more, because I don't know what we're going to get.

And, unlike BBC News, the combined use of CNN Domestic products just doesn't work on CNNI. I really believe that CNN Domestic output is loathed by the vast majority of CNNI viewers, as it's angle is far too "American" for the vast majority.

By all means, simulcasting major events with USA is fine on the rare occasion that everyone needs to see the same output. Personally, I switch off when I see Wolf Blitzer, Anderson Cooper and Piers Morgan. All far too USA.

NYT media reporter Brian Stelter says that Ali Velshi is going to host a business programme on CNNi. Not sure where it would fit in to the schedule.

He also reports that on CNN U.S, American Morning is being split into two. Ashleigh Banfield will present from 5-7 am ET and Soledad O'Brien will host 7-9 am ET.

From next week, a new business show is starting from Abu Dhabi, replacing Prism at 18.00 CET. It will be anchored b John Defterios.

Quote:

Global Exchange

Anchored out of Abu Dhabi at the cross roads between east and west, ‘Global Exchange’ draws extensively on CNN’s network of international correspondents to provide a unique vantage point on the new dynamics at play in today’s business world. The show is presented by emerging markets editor, John Defterios, whose expertise is flanked by regular contributions from Robyn Curnow and Errol Barnett in South Africa, Luis Carlos Velez across Latin America, Shasta Darlington from CNN’s soon-to-open Brazil bureau, Mallika Kapur in India, Ramy Inocencio in Hong Kong and Richard Quest from the UK, bringing audiences the stories and interviews that matter from Brazil to China, Russia to India, Africa to Central Asia and beyond.

‘Global Exchange’ also includes the ‘GX20’, a global hotlist of some of the world’s biggest economic thinkers. The GX20 will be drawn from the key emerging markets, from across China, Russia, India and South Africa, contributing daily to the show and bringing an added dimension to the business stories that count. There will also be a dedicated look at Generation Xchange, the youth who make up the real foundation for future growth.

The show also features ‘Along the Silk Road’, a weekly five minute bespoke segment that will explore the burgeoning trade and investment links from the Middle East to Asia – Beijing, Mumbai, Istanbul, Kabul, Moscow, Hong Kong, Jakarta and Dubai. The series surveys the export driven economies, countries with vast capitals of reserve and natural resources, which economic forecasters pinpoint as the ringleaders of growth for the next quarter of a century. ‘Along the Silk Road’ will be a high quality blend of polished feature reports and high profile interviews with newsmakers – those at the cutting edge of this geo-political shift.

The new show will have a dedicated webpage at www.cnn.com/globalexchange featuring the latest facts and figures from emerging markets, plus expert analysis from contributors and presenters.

Audiences can also follow the show on Twitter at @CNNGlobalEx for the latest show news, guest information and more.

‘Global Exchange’ is a strong addition to CNN’s vibrant portfolio of business programming, a fresh complement to the successful ‘Quest Means Business’ show, the recently expanded ‘Marketplace’ franchise, and the long-running popular World Business Today strand, at a time when business stories continue to set the world news agenda.

I am literally meters away from the CNN Abu Dhabi building at the moment, by coincidence. Nice location!

Anyhow, Global Exchange: let's see. John Defterios: let's see.

Errol Barnett is moving to South Africa?

John Defterios: let's see.

For some of us old-timers, this is a case of deja vu : John Defterios anchored World Business Today on CNNI for several years in the early to mid-1990s (after Grant Perry and before Sissel McCarthy, IIRC).
