US TV Gossip website FTVLive..... a site is that notoriously accurate, is reporting from multiple sources that CNN Center is to be sold/leased and CNN is to move out.

Quote:
When Jeff Zucker took over at CNN, he slowly moved most of CNN's operations to New York and the once proud CNN Center in Atlanta, is now pretty much a ghost town.

Now, sources tell FTVLive that the CNN Center maybe soon having a "For Sale" sign place in front of it.

What employees are left in Atlanta will be moved to Turner's Tech Wood Campus. This is where the other networks are housed including Cartoon Network, TNT, Peachtree TV etc.

This is, ironically, where CNN started when it was launched by Ted Turner.

Our sources say that this will all happen before the 2019 Super Bowl as they want to develop that area to be more appealing to fans.

If the CNN Center is sold or rented out, it's a win for everyone. Turner gets more money and the NFL developers get more commercial usage of the area.

Word is that the goal is to move all editorial and technical operations to New York. Master control will remain in Atlanta as the other Turner Networks have kept their MCs there.

CNN International will shift to London.

The area currently housing CNN.com and other digital operations are temporarily being shifted to CNN's 5th Floor Newsroom. That area will then be rented out for commercial usage such as stores and cafes.

Stay tuned.....

I figured this was going to happen. Ted Turner will be horrified to learn this news.

They are also reporting more layoffs are coming to CNN but only in Atlanta.
Quote:
CNN sources tell FTVLive that CNN is about to go another round of layoffs.

Insiders tell FTVLive that these cuts will take place in Atlanta, as CNN boss Jeff Zucker continues shift CNN from Atlanta to New York.

The next round of CNN cuts will be in the Media Operations department which will basically wipe out the remaining tape editors and media coordinators still in Atlanta.

When Zucker first came on board he told employees in a town hall that he knows the "heart and soul of this company are in Atlanta" and has no plans to change that.

"It looks like, he lied. Atlanta based employees are not happy," said one CNN insider to FTVLive.

Stay tuned....

Shameful.

Interesting that CNN International is to be run from London, not the US.

This is sad news. A few years back I was on a road trip and I got a tour of the CNN Building in LA because a friend worked there and the building is an imposing high rise but they actually use very little of it.

Glad I had my tour of CNN Centre back in 2015 when I still could!

The prospect of CNN Internationall fully operating from London sounds exciting. Will they need bigger space though?

My tour of the CNN Center was in 1994, pretty much the glory days of both the building and Ted Turner's networks.

In 1995, CNN Morning News took a two-hour look behind the scenes of the CNN Center (and some of its bureaus) to mark the network's 15th anniversary:

Interesting to see an advert for Six Flags Over Georgia in that video, I went there back in April... sadly I had a chest infection and felt like **** and managed about 4 rides and a just had lot of sitting around... followed by a 9-hour flight the same day, then having to get home from Heathrow all while feeling awful (thank god I wasn;t driving!)

Haven't seen that one before; thanks for sharing it! I'm surprised at the lack of hoopla (or even acknowledgement at the beginning), especially compared to the launch of CNN International's new facility in 1994:

Oh, and "CNN Centre"? I don't think the spelling of place names and other proper nouns changes based on the variety of English one is using. (After all, "Pearl Harbor" is still "Pearl Harbor" everywhere.) Wink

I don't understand this obsession with New York at all. It's a very expensive city, and it also happens to be rather peripheral geographically (and often psychologically) to the rest of the United States. Yes, it's a media hub, but in these days in instant communications, does that even matter?
