Well its all change and I have to say, although the music is the same as the US (thank goodness) the graphics and idents are quite different. It certainly would appear that Europe are quite keen to maintain a unique identity compared to its US and Asia sisters.
The only thing I would say is that it is a shame they don't cut to some live city shots on the return from the break as they do in the US instead of playing the same ident each and everytime.
Are there now 2 feeds for the graphics?
The clock on CNBC Europe on the Sky D platform now only displays the UK time, rather than alternating between UK/CET as it did previously.
So on the Astra 19.2 feed does this have the CET time instead?
I do like the new graphics - at least we've not decended in to 'Impact font hell' like the US mothership has.
Like the new look - the programme titles are not psychedelic like the CNBC US ones. The Squawk Box Europe title sequence is rather good (although I wish they wouldn't do the "7:00 --> 10:00" bit at the start every time they play it - they need a shorter version to go into and out of breaks). Only the logo and part of the music is left from the US titles (and they seem to have cut out the best bit of the Squawk theme IMO!). They seem to have put part of the old Europe Update sequence in there.
Today's Business seemed to be Wake-up Call-esque. Europe Tonight was rather good titles-wise, reminded me of the old European Closing Bell titles a bit. I only saw a trailer, but Morning Exchange's titles seem to lean far more heavily on the previous Morning Exchange titles, using very little from Morning Call (apart from the music).
At least the old music lives on the channel idents (and some breakfillers).
Quote of the day goes to Louisa Boujsen on Squawk - "You are obviously watching the new and improved Squawk Box Europe, we've got lots of new tricks and feats we will show you a little later on..."
It's quite obvious with this new look that CNBC Europe wanted to differentiate themselves from their overseas counterparts in the U.S. and Asia on-screen, although I was at least expecting to see some similarites to their on-screen looks, particularly with the Hotboards and text graphics background with the words "CNBC" moving back and forth in the background, and the on-screen graphical style being more in line with them. (At least though, as someone's already said they have not used the "Impact bold font" all over the place with these changes!)
It would have been nice to see the same Squark Box titles as used overseas, with "Europe" added above the logo and the correct point in the music used. I agree with an earlier point that they should take out the 07:00 - 10:00 bit at the start of the titles, and start and finish the title music similar to their overseas counterparts. (Even though I notice that the programme is often referred to as Squark Box Europe which can be confusing!)
One thing I don't like from the changes is the new grey/silver surface colour on the Hotboards. But they have at least changed the colour on the stack (or bug).
And I have also noticed, that they have changed the desk and also the large side panels either side of the videowall screens!
I only saw a trailer, but Morning Exchange's titles seem to lean far more heavily on the previous Morning Exchange titles, using very little from Morning Call (apart from the music).
Having actually seen the Morning Exchange titles now I think they are actually the most CNBC US-esque of all! (I've yet to see Power Lunch's though). They have used the old animation, but are running over it an animation of the words "morning exchange" not unlike Morning Call/Market Watch's titles.
Squawk Box...hmm they still do not seem to have made up their mind whether the programme is "CNBC Europe Squawk Box" or "Squawk Box Europe". But since yesterday the title sequence now says the latter, so I guess that is now the official title (though it has been that in listings magazines since the mini-relaunch in May 2003). Would have helped if they didn't put a giant logo saying "Europe Squawk Box" on the videowall during the programme, as well as Geoff Cuthmore calling it that several times during the programme. Incidently I noticed that trailers for the programme play the full version of the US Squawk Box theme, rather than the shortened version used on the Europe programme.
The breakfiller seems to be alternating between the new and old music, iciedently. And the same "momuments in Europe" idents as before are now being used again, albeit with the new ending animation and slightly-changed logo.
