Are we all agreed that CNBCE bosses should introduce the new look before Xmas?

I have to say i find cnbc europe very watchable. I especially like morning exchange end euro closing bell. Why do they use such a dated looking studio in the morning but such a nice studio in the afternoon...?

The best thing about the channel is the music - especially the headline bed for closing bell europe and the music played over the market boards - best musis on any news channel!

Has anyone seen this week's Broadcast magazine dated Friday 3rd September?

I noticed an advertisement in the back pages of the magazine for job vacancies at CNBC Europe, with the familiar peacock logo on the left-hand side of the advert on a blue background, and the words "CNBC Europe" appearing in very small type.

To me it looked very similar to the design of the slide that was used recently on the channel, during NBC Nightly News for the duration of the Olympics in Athens, when CNBC Europe did not have the rights to show footage from the Olympics that was used in news reports during the programme.

Is that a possible clue to the forthcoming new look, maybe?...

EDIT (08/09/04): According to a reply I have received from the President and CEO of the channel to an e-mail I recently sent, he says there will be further enhancements to the channels on-screen look appearing throughout September.

So I think it's a case of keeping our eyes peeled...

It sounds like CNBC Europe will have their new look on Monday September 13th (Simon Hobbs mentioned something about it in the European Update). I assume they will adopt the US graphics and sound? I notice also that from Monday they will restyle "Frankfurt Closing Bell" as "Europe Tonight".

I hope they don't follow the US programming in too many other ways. Although CNBC US have an impressive studio and snazzy graphics, they seem to be becoming less focused on financial markets in what seems like an effort to appeal to a broader audience.

CNBC was getting record ratings during the market boom of the late '90s, but the network's numbers declined when the economy turned sour. Some argue that people, especially small-scale investors, like to watch good economic news on TV, but tune out when the markets go down. CNBC's new focus is perhaps the network's attempt to reposition itself for a post-boom world. Recently, CNN(USA) also transformed the old Moneyline , which had been a staple of the network since 1980, into a more general news-and-comment-oriented Lou Dobbs Tonight (no longer carried on CNNI).

If they are getting a new look on Monday, I just hope that they update the look of the ticker. Its been the same since I can ever remember on CNBC Europe - it needs to change to a flatter style to fit in with the Asian and US tickers.

Looks like it will definitely be the "new" (at least twelve months old now!) US look from Monday. The Europe Tonight logo is on the CNBC Europe website here:

http://www.cnbceurope.com/television/programmes/europetonight/

and it is a US-look style logo. Looks like it is an original Europe creation though (but it also reminds me of "Bullseye"). Presumably "CNBC Europe Squawk Box" will finally become "Squawk Box Europe" on-screen as well.

I'm gonna miss the music...

Just saw a break-filler on CNBC Europe - and there is a whole new Hotboard look. But the background is not the yellow/blue floating CNBCs which is used by US/Asia, rather it is a grey-ish background with a rotating globe outline. Its different. The fonts used is the same is that currently used by CNBC Europe, but the big silver lettering is gone. The "Closed" bit flashes beside "European Bourses".
Oh, and the current music is used.

So its not at all certain that the new Europe look (which will arrive tommorow) will be a wholesale take-off of the US look (which Asia did) - rather it seems to be some sort of hybrid between the two.

The globe doesn't appear to be too smooth in its animation. Although there is little arrows that appear to fly around the screen. I would say that the look is greatly different current CNBC US and there is a more 3D feel to the elements on-screen.

A change of music would be nice, I know the stuff they have at the moment is great (although they have one hot board piece that is only played once in a blue moon and thats the best ever - it was taken from CNBC US which was usually played after coming back from commerical).

p.s. Frankfurt Closing Bell is still being advertised.
