Yes, John really is excellent. Strange that they gave Andrew Harvey the show for one weekend, couldn't ITV have kept John for one week longer? However, I think John is better suited to long news programmes such as the former 'Live withs' or Breakfast. I can't really see him presenting a short bulletin, he's too informal (which is a good thing).

It would be nice to see John Nicolson pop up on ITV bulletins over Christmas - where will he go when the news channel goes? Good memories of him presenting Breakfast, back in the day...

In answer to previous question the Christmas Day newsreaders have been:-
2002- Huw Edwards
2003- George Alagiah
2004- George Alagiah
2005- Probably Anna Ford (as she usually does Christmas Eve), George Alagiah (as in the past it has been 6:00 news reader), Natasha Kaplinsky (same reason as George) or Sian Williams (as she usually does New Years Day).
It clearly cannot be Sophie Raworth, Michael Buerk is on holiday.
Or of course, there is the possibility that we will see a reporter or a regional presenter take to the chair. Or perhaps the chance to be a BBC1 presenter will be given as a goodbye gift to Adrian Finnighan.
