God, Bill must really love working Xmas Day! Is he not married? Family? He's done it for the past 2 years IIRC.

I remember someone saying last year that its between bill and Sian which one does Breakfast on Christmas Day and then which one does Breakfast on New Years Day. Bill must prefer to work xmas day because he finishes around 9, can go home and then spend the rest of the day with his family. The same for Sian on New Years Day. I think Sian has got younger children too which is why she would rather do new years day than Christmas Day. Im sure im wrong somewhere down that line, If anyone knows better, feel free to correct.

Yeah, and the bonus is an added avantage...

Bill has done it for at least the last 3-4 years on Christmas day. Simon McCoy has done boxing day for the past 2, and Sian has done boxing day for as long as I can remember,

All figures include the coming christmas.

Last I heard the BBC staff bonus for working Christmas Day was about 70 quid. Before tax. Dunno if the "talent" gets more. Don't think so though.

i seem to recall that you also get taxis to and from work and an allowance for food - or is that just new years eve?

from the talent's point of view - viewing figures must be decent on christmas day given that there's not much else to do other than to stay at home.

No allowance for food anymore ... you only get taxis if you normally get public transport and the extra payment is about £100 now. You don't get double or triple time like in some companies. It's basically treated much like a normal day as all holidays are in "24/7" areas of the BBC.

This may seem a stupid question, but do newsreaders say 'Happy Christmas' or something along those lines, on Christmas Day, or do they have to consider not everybody in the community celebrates this event?

He is married with one teensge boy and one teenage girl. They have been on Strictly Come Dancing talking about Bill dancing.

Bill Turnbull says "Good morning, welcome to Breakfast from BBC News, I'm Bill Turnbull, and, it's Christmas Day." then "Thank you for joining us, Merry Christmas to you, also on today's programme...."

On Sunday 18th it reads that BBC1 will see Simon McCoy at 5.45 and Fiona Bruce at 10.00.

If we do see Simon at 5.45, will this be his first time presenting a BBC ONE bulletin, excluding Breakfast?
