For god sake it's a bit of fog!

Back to the argument of a few weeks ago but if Heathrow was operating without problems and Manchester and Birmingham were closed due to fog, it wouldn't get a mention!

And why send presenters out to the scene - if it's as bad as they're making out you won't be able to see them! Laughing

Exactly, Belfast had the fog on Tuesday/Wednesday and flights had to be cancelled in and out of the city

... and Julian O'Neill got an appearance on News 24 telling us well, nothing that we didn't already know, but did make the point that BA doesn't fly anywhere out of Belfast apart from Manchester and IOM!

Just how far can you go in-depth until you don't see though.

"A lot of cancellations of flights for the next 24 - 48 hours due to the terrible fog we've been having in the run up to Christmas. Trains also halted in some places. Check with your local operator to see weather your flight is going ahead or not"

That's about all we need to know is it not?

Sounds clever, but let's face if that's the kind of news you want, I would highly recommend Metro.

I mean, why don't we summarise the Suffolk murders:

"5 prostitutes killed by one suspect in the area around Ipswich- 2 men held". What more information could you possibly need?

Or how about the big spy story of the day:

"British solder acting as interpreter charged with spying on Nato matters for Iran"

No need for any more detail is there?

News- in all forms of print and broadcast- should be about adding depth to stories and not just providing "what we need to know".

Yes stories like that you do, but the following situation on the fog - what more indepth do you need on that? The only thing the news channels can help you with if your flying is weather the flights are back on or not.

Any of the broadcasters got an interview with the bearded man himself to find out if alternative plans are in place if his sleigh is grounded due to fog on Sunday night? Laughing

Exactly the same here in Liverpool...did we get a mention on the national news?

As someone who had my flight cancelled yesterday, and therefore actually needed to hear what was being said on the news, I can tell you quite categorically they were all total waste of time.

Sending presenters out to something like this is a massive waste of time. It isn't some sort of national disaster/international incident/world war/prostitute murder, it's flight delays totally beyond the control of anyone.

I actually have very little sympathy with anyone who flies domestically from London to anywhere in England, Scotland, or Wales anyway. There's a perfectly good train service from the capital to anywhere in the UK. I was flying from East Anglia to Manchester - a 50 minute flight Vs. a 7 hour train journey, so I think i'm allowed.

Its getting better - Live to the RAC again and there is no news there is no stationary traffic its all moving quite nicely RAC states the obvious make sure your car is working - Live to York, empty station - Virgin train pulls into station - its empty,

Desperate for news live to Suffolk a bit foggy but we are talking about the alleged murderer - no mention of the other bloke who has had his face plastered across the media and has been released without charge. Will he be able to have a life after this trial by media? What is his home like after its been ripped apart by the plods - will he get an apology - now there is a story Exclamation

And on last night's 10.30 on ITV News, we were promised Mary Nightingale, she was even name-checked, and AFAIK, she didn't appear. I didn't watch the end, maybe she appeared then, but I assume due to the Suffolk story there was no need to have her there.

As mentioned in the ITV News thread - Mary Nightingale was ment to be on the Late News. But however didn't appear throughout any of it.

With just James Mates in the studio.
