It was for an online interview. I dont think ITN were that stupid to let me meet up with him. For some reason it cant be viewed at the moment on NewsZoneNewsZone : Interview but here is some of it....

"NewsZone caught up with ITV News' Chris Rogers on what it takes to make it into the industry and a look at his own work, including his award winning report on Romanian Orphans.

Q1 : The world is changing in front of our eyes, and the way the news is being reached is also changing, is TV News still important as ever?
I was on air during the September 11th Terror attacks: I think that was perhaps the first time "rolling news" came into its own: events unfolded so fast and the world changed so much that day that there was a hunger for people to just simply watch the news endlessly to try and make sense of it all. I believe news defines a TV channel, viewers often build their viewing around a chance to catch the news, there isn't any event in this world that doesn't effect us in some way.

Q2 : Your report for ITV News on the Romanian Orphans was an excellent report that grabbed peoples attention, is it hard to cover stories like this?
It is very difficult and takes months of preparation. Before you even film a frame you have to spend a lot of time researching where you need to go to get the story, building the trust of people you need to help you and then finding a way of getting the material you need.

That often means going undercover and filming secretly. When we got to Romania we spent days just posing as aid workers conducting long meetings with the authorities trying to convince them we could be trusted then once we got inside you have to try and film the images you need without a conventional camera. It is not conventional filming, hidden cameras are not reliable, you often end up with footage you can't use because the mini camera was knocked to one side and you have no chance to film again.

It requires nerves of steal and good acting skills - filming undercover, you're often in constant danger of getting exposed. Even when you finally have your evidence, in this case the cruel treatment of abandoned children in horrific orphanages, there are the threats you often receive from the people behind the cruelty you have exposed and the ongoing need to protect the people who helped you get the story.

Q3 : Whats it like working for ITV News as a reporter and presenting London Tonight for ITV?
I like the variety of being on the road and being in the studio. Every day is different and you don't know what it will involve.

Q4 : You were a familiar face on the ITV News Channel, whats the environment like knowing that anything can break at the drop of a hat?
News is history as it happens -what a job. September 11th was perhaps the most difficult breaking news stories I have covered because it was so overwhelming but I was in good hands with a fantastic team behind the camera.

I remember covering the death of Pope John Paul II, my knowledge from being a Catholic came in very handy that night with lots of airtime to fill, but it was a very different kind of breaking news to September 11th. Every story is different and so you can never prepare - you just have to think on your feet, rely on your knowledge and try your best to reflect what is happening. It's live television at its best.

Q5 : How did you feel when it was announced that the ITV NC was going to close?
Of course like everyone I was sad. We all worked very hard for a channel that ran on much fewer resources compared to the competition. The very fact that we provided a solid service and often beat the competition with breaking news and exclusive coverage is a true reflection of the hard work that went into the channel. The trouble is we live on a small island and there is only so much room for 24-hour news channels.

Q6 : How did you first get into journalism?
I have to confess I lied about my age to the BBC and got on a training course which landed me my first job at 16 to report for youth programmes.

Q7 : Any words of advice for a young budding journalist out there?
Don't follow the crowds, it takes more than a degree to get on. Get experience any way you can and don't expect to be paid. Be original, look for good stories and new angles - there are so many out there yet to be told.

Chris Rogers, Thank you!
