Very sad news. Mr. Wheeler was an incredible journalist.

I just saw the story on Media Guardian. Very sad news, he was one of the best correspondents the BBC ever had. I had no idea that he was Boris Johnson's father in law though.

*Sigh* Another death thread. Come on, he was 85, surely both you and him were expecting it|?

Go and troll somewhere else, please. It seems perfectly legitimate for people to want to comment on the passing of someone who has had such a significant career in television news spanning so many decades.

If it doesn't interest you and you don't have anything gracious to say, kindly keep quiet.

He certainly knew how to tell a good story. His heyday was way before my time, but the archive footage I've seen of his over the years, he was one of the best.

He's been married twice. Does it have a relevance to the death of his Father-in-Law?

Charles Wheeler very much in the Alistair Cooke genre of broadcasters, incisive, concise and gifted.

His Vietnam War and Civil Rights reporting was impressive.

We'll never see an equivalent again. In these multichannel times.

As most know, I rarely contribute to these threads, but I think that sums up Charles perfectly.

Sadly, I never met him, and don't know his family, so I'm not going to come out with any of the well-worn cliches, used far too many times in threads like this.

There's a brief interview with the man and details of the new Dateline London from News 24's launch "Preface" programme on YouTube.

When will you get it? It is a perfectly legitimate thread, if you don't like it, simply don't post. You have no respect whatsoever, and frankly, it disgusts me.

A great shame for Journalism, he was a talent.
